Just an honest question, but hasn't perimeter defense been an Achilles heel for Avery throughout his coaching career? I'm glad it and defense are still emphasized. More offensive talent is great, but I'd still like defense to be one of Alabama's identities.

I haven't looked at where we ranked on perimeter defense, but I feel like since our interior defense was really good, maybe the perimeter is where teams decided to attack us.

Good interview with Garrett Tucker LINK

Notes:

Bama is the favorite for Javian Fleming. He expects him to sign in the early period.

Herb and Collin are the first guys in the gym and the last guys out. He thinks Herb can really explode onto the scene.

Butler is a bigger priority than Richardson because he sees Richardson as a 2. (I don't have as much info as Garrett, but it seems weird that we would be watching all of Richardson's games if this were the case.)

He gives Bama a slight edge in Woodard's recruitment and wouldn't be shocked if Woodard decides to sign in November even though Woodard said he'd sign in April.

He thinks Kavon Moore is a long shot because Georgia and Florida are hard after him. Also, he said Mercer has a real chance at Moore.

Fleming tweeted this @ Robert Woodard.

It means Woodard is playing for Team Thad this weekend, but more importantly it means that Fleming and Woodard are still friends from their Da House days.

Also here's Fleming channeling Hakeem on a poor defender LINK

Re: Butler

GT is right. Butler is very high on our board. That doesn't mean that we don't want Richardson too, especially now that Stewart committed to State.

State is trying to sell Woodard on coming in with Stewart and Perry. Stewart @ 2, Woodard @ 3 and Perry @ 4. I'm not as optimistic as I once was regarding Woodard. He'd be a beast in our system though.

2 are definite- Armond and Riley graduate
1 more is very likely- Sexton going pro

A fourth could come from several places- One of Braxton, Hall, or Petty has a great year and goes pro, somebody transfers because of playing time, or Avery could use his son to free up a scholarship.

I think it'll be 3.

Do you know if the staff sees Butler coming in and immediately replacing Sexton at point? I don't think I'd be very confident with a true freshman at Butler's level starting at point guard day 1.

Could we just move Dazon back to PG and recruit another need position?

2018 lineup

PG - Ingram
SG - Petty
SF - Jones/Freshman
PF - Hall
C - Giddens

Unless we can get another elite PG that can come in and start from day one, I think we should find a kid that can grow and help us long term.

That's what I would expect, but GT said that our recruiting pitch to Butler was coming in and replacing Sexton. They could mean long term, or they could mean immediately.

I personally don't think Butler is near good enough to be a SEC PG day 1, but our staff could think differently.

He'd compete for starting PG day 1. I have no idea if he would win the position battle. Staff is extremely high on Butler. Can't say now exactly what I was told but I will later if we sign him.

Probably just means Dazon at the point in the big group and just barely stretched the truth.

Tevin Mack will be a definite starter in 2018.
