Their since of achievement and satisfaction is higher when receiving good grades and being near the top of the class as opposed to struggling at a better institution.

I had to read a few of his books this semester. Pretty good stuff.

The other poster gave good summation, but David and Goliath is the title of the book if you are interested. I read it as soon as it came out so it's been a while, but I believe he outlines the theory in the first or second chapter.

For its recruiting application, my point was about how the upper-mid university would focus more resources to ensure success on one of their brighter students than the amount of resources provided by a high level institution to a low performing student. To me it seems to fit Ingram's case perfectly. He is our top target, but for Kentucky he's their third option just at his position.

I think this was expected, or at least shouldn't come as a surprise.

I understand why Ingram is considering Kentucky. While he is good if you don't have 1 and done talent I wouldn't try it. Getting jumped over year after year cant be fun.

don't want to derail this thread though.

As long as "struggling" doesn't mean "flunking out" then I would say 9 times out of 10 that Ivy League diploma is going to put you in a better position than your cum laude diploma at a "lesser school." People rarely care what grades you made at Harvard as long as you graduate.

The fact that we are applying theories from Malcolm Gladwell to our basketball program tells me everything I need to know about where our program is

I believe the "lesser" school from the example in the book was UVA or Maryland or some other ACC school. Still very fine institutions, but not quite on the Harvard level. Gladwell makes a very convincing argument that might change your opinion if you read his book. By the way, and without deviating too far off topic, grades have a HUGE impact in grad program admittance.

There are many other factors that contribute to that theory which do not apply to basketball recruiting. I'm trying to present a logical case for Bama without my Crimson colored glasses. The resources/PT that we could devote to Ingram will benefit him more in the long-run than what he could receive at Kentucky. RTR

This 5* plays for Mo Williams' AAU club so maybe he can send him to us.

@BAMAMIXTAPE: Alabama Head Coach Avery Johnson is already making a splash. He's impressed top 10 Terrance Ferguson already. Good sign for the state.

On the recruiting side, Ferguson said he's been hearing from Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Louisville, Texas A&M along with many others. The Texas native said he also just recently spoke with new Alabama coach Avery Johnson.

"He's a former NBA coach and former NBA player, so who wouldn't want to play for him?" Ferguson said. "He's just trying to build a relationship so far and build a bond with me."

Ferguson doesn't have a timeline for his decision and said he's still interested in all the schools recruiting him.

The recent Malik Newman and Terrance Ferguson news is exciting.

Don't wanna get too hyped because it doesn't seem likely, but it is nice to see the star recruits' names being mentioned with Bama.

I think Newman tweeted within the last couple days he was done with visits, and would decide between the schools he visited.
