I've been pretty high on Avery Johnson. However, I may just as soon hear that he took a recruit for happy hour at Arety's Angels in Pensacola as to get ribs at Applebees in Tuscaloosa.

This is the first moment since he's been hired that I have my doubts about Avery. He's obviously showing some questionable decision making skills by risking a recruit getting Giardia.

Avery Jr. is transferring to Bama. I really hope he's going to be a walkon.

His kid played a huge role with A&M's class. Wonder if he has ties to guys in the upcoming class.

That'd be nice but I think his best friends were in this past class.

The al.com writer says he'll be on scholarship. I don't understand that at all

The AAU team he played for always has good players. He likely has connections with some of them still.

Barf. Texas A&M gets the kid to help recruit his friends and now we're the ones gifting away the scholarship for 4 years (won't even be able to play next year). I still love CAJ, but the fact he's coming here on scholarship is major nepotism (especially considering what seems to have happened with Mitchell). It worries that he's going to be forced into having a role on the team. I guess we can always hope he turns into our Doug McDermott.

having him on the team is valuable in a few ways:

1) you have 13 scholarships yet usually only play 8-9 kids. it isn't hurting us in that regard
2) he's going to be plugged into the coach (helps the players) and the players (helps his dad know the pulse of the team)
3) his connections in Texas AAU system should help even more than simply his Dad's connections. He can recruit without the contact limits that fall on coaches.
4) it further solidifies CAJ's ties to Bama. It's not simply $$ or opportunity based, but it is truly a family thing now. That's always good.

just my thoughts.

Hopefully it's a case of the writer being wrong. The guy isn't and won't be a high major guard. He should be a walk on with recruiting privileges.

This is a bad move if he's given a scholarship.

@jeffborzello: With Dikembe Dixson canceling his Arkansas visit, the 2015 wing is down to Mississippi State and Alabama. Wants to decide by May 21.

@AdamZagoria: Florida is trying to get involved w/ 2015 SF Dikembe Dixson. Isn't necessarily down to Alabama & Miss State. @Ddixson_35

Yeah he could be molded into a decent player. He's made for a running system.

Even though he is young im sure he will come in and know what his dad wants. Will come in and work very hard which is good for everyone.
