Actually, no gaming revenue in MS is specifically earmarked for education.

Last year the gaming industry generated $3 billion. There is a 12% gaming tax, 8% of which goes to the state's general fund. Four percent goes the five counties where casinos are located: Adams, Harrison, Tunica, Warren and Washington.

Alabama is still one of only a few SEC teams that have made it to an NCAA CWS Championship Game:
Bama, Miss State, Georgia, Vandy, South Carolina, LSU

Any more? A&M Ole Miss Florida Tenn Arky ?

Alabama needs a state lottery to help with scholarship restrictions.

Our idiot governor was just today railing against this. It curdled my blood when the crowd cheered for his crook arse at the sugar bowl.

MS doesn't have a state lottery and OM and State have both been much more successful than Alabama and Auburn as of late in baseball. I don't think you have to have some type of extra scholarship system to be successful. It's an obvious advantage, but not a necessity.

LSU took the soul of Alanama baseball and crushed it in Omaha., Had Alabama actually won that game in 1997, they would probably gone onto being a decent program instead of the last place garbage they are today.

True and false. They continued to be a very good program through 2006. But Jim Wells couldn't decide when to retire. Then basically demanded Gaspard be hired so Bobby Pierce couldn't get the job.

Not necessarily meant for your comment, but I see a lot of excuse making in this thread

Oh, I've never agreed with the fans that think the lack of a lottery scholarship is a disadvantage. It would be nice to have but it doesnt prevent Alabama from getting back to where it was as a baseball program.

The athletic administration waiting so long to enter the facilities arms race in college baseball is at much at fault as anything. That's been remedied, or will be for next season. But Gaspard is still an issue. He is what he is at this point.

I love these teams beating their chest about beating a Bama team that has:

-A home field an hour away
-Literally practicing on whatever grass lot they can use
-Team basically of walk-ons due to schollie limits. How many kids can afford half tuition?

Bragging about beating Bama in baseball? Hasnt happened in a while.
You guys quit acting like everybody has this huge amount of scholarships to hand out in baseball because it isn't true.

My earliest Alabama baseball memory...I listened to the Bama games in the CWS on a radio. Locked myself in my bedroom, made a tiny little ball out something and used one of those small commemorative wooden bats and played "games" while listening.

I remember thinking Dave Magadan could not get out.

Good times.

until we met up with Roger Clemens and Texas.

Beat FSU and Miami to make it to the CWS, Beat Arizona State and Michigan I think, then face Texas in winners bracket championship...got beat.

Dropped to loser bracket and beat ASU again and then lost again to Texas.

Think I am remembering correctly.

Georgia has a state lottery. Hasn't helped their baseball program succeed.

You know what happened with the GA lottery? Politicians saw it as a wonderful slush-fund of additional money to waste. Now, the lottery doesn't even cover full tuition and things are getting worse.

Trying solving your educational issues in some way other than the "We need endless money" cop.
