Hurts definitely needs to get his timing down. He has open guys down the field a lot and can't hit them most of the time. On the plus side, his short stuff is pretty good in terms of zip and accuracy and that's huge in the west coast offense Lane runs.

Obviously his running game opens up a whole new dimension to our offense that at this point makes up for his lack of down the field passing. At the end of the day, if he picks up an extra 100 yards and 2 TD's with his feet that AJ would have thrown for as a senior...what's the difference?

That said, I think we'd all be super excited to see the light come on against LSU and see Hurts start hitting some open balls down the field. This team would be nearly unstoppable with a consistent vertical passing game. Here's to hoping he spends the bye week on timing with Ridley and Stewart.

That was absolutely an awesome defense but, of course, offenses are much more prolific these days.

Exactly. Of the 11 FBS teams we played in 2011 Arkansas was #29 in total offense that year. The next closest team was Miss State at #84.

This year we play three FBS teams that are #80 or higher in total offense. The other 8 FBS teams currently range from #14-#78 in total offense.

I think what you will likely start seeing is more of a short passing game, and we saw some of that with more balls to the TE this week.

People will concede a lot of the underneath stuff because of loading the box and playing man on early downs, and going zone if we are behind the chains. I think we will take what they give us.

We all got a little spoiled at the end of last year, Jake Coker threw the ball pretty well down the stretch and really was throwing the deep ball with very good accuracy.

And people were still bitching about him
