Everyone seems to forget before AJ was slinging over 3000 yards and putting up 25+ TDs every year with great accuracy, he started out like this:

For a grand total of: 2634 yards, 16 TDs in 13 games

Now here's Jalen so far:

Projected for Jalen through 13 games: 2517 yards, 18 TDs.

By rushing: AJ racked up -33 yards and 2 TDs rushing through 13 games.

Extrapolating to 13 games, Jalen could accumulate 850 yards, 15 TDs rushing.

So, while Jalen has had comparable numbers to AJ in his first year, we're all ready to freak out about his passing ability. AJ would miss wide open receivers, overthrow or underthrow the deep ball ALL day during 2011. Every single game I remember being so frustrated at him missing easy passes. He came into his own in the championship game vs. LSU. It takes time. It takes preparation. Jalen will be more than fine. He will be great.

1. Kiffin. This is huge. Probably the best OC in the land.
2. This isn't your 2011 Alabama. Every guy catching the ball short of Dieter will be playing on Sundays. In the case of Ridley and Howard they will likely go round 1-2.

Dieter will play in NFL, he's one of those players the Pats would draft.

AJ was also in his third year of being in the system.

Thats light years ahead of a true freshman.

AJ also had the best OLine in the history of college football.

Everyone will have to be patient. Hes not going to turn into a downfield passer over night. Most mortal QB's dont get there until they've been in the system two or three years, and even then most of them are mediocre at best.

If we dont see a little improvement after the bye week then he may not get there this season, but he is the best option we have at QB.

Its not his fault he is a true freshman. How much more could anyone expect from this kid that just turned 18 ? Serious question.

I know one thing the barners would trade their first born to have Hurts.

When it comes to the passing game the two do not belong in the same sentence. It is what it is.

Yeah the Patriots always seem to have that one random white dude that Tom Brady makes a pro bowler.

Show me a stat comparing their accuracy on passes NOT behind the line of scrimmage.

It's not time to panic, but it's certainly time to expect to see improvement.

If they were honest, every team in the SEC except for Ole Miss and possibly Georgia and Arky would trade for him no questions asked.

Sometimes I think I've hit the wrong button and am on the rant with only Bama fans. People hate on the true freshmen that throws like a sophmore but plays like a senior. Maybe they'd be happier if he threw a nice spiral but it was intercepted because he tries to fit it into coverage. A lot of his overthrows are on purpose.

I'm not that disappointed in his downfield passing for this year (that is reserved for Lane's play calling )

However, next season, all excuses are gone. If he doesn't show marked improvement, then it's time to admit he is what he is. For now, the kid is light years ahead of what a true frosh should be with ice water in his veins.

Why would next season be the cutoff? Players improve after their sophomore and junior year's too.

It's the relatively poor pct of intermediate and downfield passes that concern some.

I'm not sure how many of the passing yards this year are jet sweeps (basically a handoff), screen passes, or within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, but it's probably the major part of it.

That said, I don't care if we run the wishbone offense as long as we win. Somebody, though, is going to force us to throw the ball downfield. May be LSU, may be Auburn, or it may be in the playoffs if we get there, but I bet it happens.

Some people have been ragging on Kiffin, but imo he has done a very good job scheming around our lack of a stellar downfield game. The more games we play, though, the consistent failure to produce in that phase of the game, the more scheming against our tendencies we will see. That, plus LSU and Auburn are playing pretty good defense right now.

He may improve incrementally from his sophomore to his junior year but he should make big strides after this season. If he's still markedly inaccurate downfield, I just don't see him waking up one day his junior or senior season and being Johnny Unitas.

Jay Barker didn't exactly light it up in his championship season. Two years later he was a Heisman finalist.

Give the kid some time.

Alabama won in 92 in spite of Jay Barker.

Hurts may not yet be the greatest passer in the SEC but he's already better than Barker was.

Anyway and in any event, I have this damn cool gif.......

You know what I noticed on that state sheet.

The defense gave up 21 points 1 time all year and it was to GA Southern, the next highest point total was 14, twice. 12 TDS all year.

Damn that was a shut down defense. This year's team is more aggressive, high risk high reward type team.

I'd like to see the point differential for this year's team, how many points it's allowed vs how many it's scored.

Hopefully that trend will continue with at least 1 defensive score vs L5u.

That was absolutely an awesome defense but, of course, offenses are much more prolific these days.
