That makes this seems very, very sudden.
quote:

Earlier in the day, Saban interviewed candidates for his vacant wide receivers coach opening, according to sources, and didn’t give any indication he was about to flip the college football world upside down. He told some staff members of a 4 p.m. team meeting but did not tell them ahead of time that he was going to retire with multiple indicating surprise at his decision.

He wasn’t going to show his hand until the end.

Makes me very concerned they got some unexpected bad news about Miss Terry's health. I sincerely hope not.

I'm still hoping he's staying on as an analyst or in some kind of role so he can be a part of the team somehow.

He's the one that has always said "I wouldn't know what to do if I wasn't part of a team"

I heard he cited health concerns. Sounds like he might have gotten some kind of health news, who knows. CFB with all the NIL and transfer bull might have just worn him out.

That is just how Saban operates, he was a professional until the end.

Sounds like only the AD and BOT knew for at least a week.

If something didn't change during the day, then he basically wasted the people he interviewed time.

Or he was interviewing for the next coach.

That's so crazy and odd at the same time...if true, they had no clue

I don’t think he would do that. He’s going to give the new coach space. If he’s asked for advice or input, I’m sure he would give it, but he’s not going to linger over the program.

Imagine being the guy who interviewed.

Guy probably bragged to all his friends about how he was going to interview for THE university of Alabama. Then went home to wait on the outcome only to hear Saban retired hours later.

interesting I must admit.

I can also see Saban just going about his normal day and not canceling scheduled interviews he had so people couldn't speculate before he made the announcement to make sure his team knew first.

The fact he had the meeting scheduled already kind of leads me to think he somewhat had this planned in his head how he wanted to do it.

Also, didn’t Alabama hire that guy who was formerly the LB coach at Michigan just before the Rose Bowl? Seems weird if he already knew he was retiring.

No head coach can succeed if Saban is still associated with Alabama football in any official capacity.

Terrion Arnold said there was a team meeting called for yesterday, but was cancelled due to the weather.

Seems Saban had to push back to today.

Terrion Arnold’s interview: interesting info here about Miss Terry (not her health). Her love and caring for current and former players. LINK

Those WR coach candidates must have really sucked if it drove Saban to retire right after. It’s all their fault!!

I just wonder if he was just tired and didnt have the drive to do the coaching turnover again. IMO if Steele stays, Saban stays

I think CKS knew and would've stayed if Saban was staying.
