On Wednesday, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick spoke at the Sports Business Journal's Intercollegiate Athletics Forum in Las Vegas. Per FOX Sports' Bryan Fischer, he confirmed the school has no intention of joining a conference. And here's why...

"We don’t do it because it’s financially advantageous or competitively advantageous," Swarbrick said. "We do it because of the value to the university."

Notre Dame signed a new contract with NBC a few weeks ago for reportedly $50 million per year through 2029. This is in addition to the approximately $17 million per year partial share it receives from the ACC. So expect Notre Dame to remain independent and not join a conference anytime soon.

"Picking and choosing our competition allows us to play weaker P5 teams so we can cake walk into the 12 team playoffs. And NBC is paying us dumb money for our TV rights."

Money - the NBC TV contract, where ND gets to keep it all.

In other words, we're privileged knuckleheads who think we're too good for a conference.

As long as NBC keeps them on TV they will continue with no conference. The second that money dries up, I guarantee you they join a conference

"We don’t do it because it’s financially advantageous or competitively advantageous," Swarbrick said. "We do it because of the value to the university ...in that it's financially beneficial because we don't have to compete". That's the real ending if you get the unsaid part

In other words, ND is too elite to join a conference. The Irish never won a national title since the BCS and playoff systems began -- relying on sportswriters to manufacture title for them.

If you're scared, say you're scared. He knows they are mid-tier in power 5 conferences.
