Lane Kiffin Says Bama Would’ve Beat Clemson In Title Game If He Were There
© Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
New FAU head coach Lane Kiffin is now chirping that Alabama would've beaten Clemson in last year's College Football Playoff title game if he was still the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator at the time. Per the Washington Post...
quote:

“I do,” Kiffin said. “It’s no disrespect to Steve. No matter who it was, you’ve been there all year long. You’ve been there for the quarterback. You’re all he knew. You were undefeated together. We’ve won [26] straight games together. You feel like, okay, it’s different. As great as Sark is, it’s just different. Again, if it had been 14 points either way … when it’s one play here or there, you think if those guys had the person they were used to, it would have made a difference.”
Kiffin left before that game to focus on his new gig at FAU.

Say what you want about Kiffen, but he's absolutely spot on in this matter. Saban got cocky and thought he could beat Clemson on talent. But it takes gameplanning and Alabama's gameplan wasn't as strong as Clemsons' without Kiffen at the helm. You can have all the talent in the world and still lose due to lousy gameplanning. We LSU fans no that better than most!

He's probably right. And he didn't leave, Saban fired him. Saban's pride cost him another title. Probably stings that he couldn't do it without Lane.

no excuses for Bama... they won a national title by getting a repeat against the team that beat them on their home field and went undefeated

Or the gameplan would have sucked even more because Kiffin would have had his mind on recruiting for FAU instead of focusing on the title game. We'll never know. All that matters at this point is Bama lost and we will all just have to live with that as hard as it may be.

I'm not a Kiffen fan, but that's a major LR change happening right before the biggest game of the year. He could've been the difference to keep a couple of those drives alive.

I doubt Alabama even wins a single game. Nick Saban will never even be the Alabama coach.

The best part is, he didn't elect to leave. Sabah forced him out. How you like that decision now, Nicky???
