Former Florida State Mascot Killed After Gumbo Argument
Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports
Don't say getting the gumbo right isn't important. Caleb Joshua Halley was Florida State’s mascot "Chief Osceola" from 2004-2007. Over the weekend he was stabbed and killed at the restaurant he works at over an argument about gumbo spices. Per the Tallahassee Democrat...
quote:

Caleb Joshua Halley was stabbed at a seafood restaurant by his coworker 26-year-old Orlando Thompson, who has been arrested on charges of manslaughter by the Panama City Police Department.

According to police reports the two men were arguing over the amount of spice to put into Buddy’s Seafood Market gumbo Tuesday where the two men worked.

Thompson armed himself with a wooden board and Halley with a small wooden knife.

Thompson then retreated and returned with a knife, slashing Halley, causing three lacerations across his torso.

Not sure what is worse. That intro line or the attempts to make light of this senseless tragedy. Someone's child is dead over a foolish argument.

What is not funny is that a young man was killed foolishly. Josh was a good young man. I was his pastor in Chipley, FL and he was a fine young church member. He was a close friend of my son, who is attending his funeral today. It is indeed a tragedy...far more important than catching a laugh at his family's expense. Prayers for the family would be an appropriate comment. ~ Dr. Kermit P. Soileau

I don't mean to be irreverent, but you have to think that the restaurant must have some good food if the staff are that serious about preparing it. That kid is going to make some prison population happy when they stick him in the kitchen.

Larry, you're getting lazy. You used to bring fresh and exciting stories, now you're just posting other people's threads as news.

Now the restaurant has a new "killer" slogan

"Gumbo so good, it'll kill ya"

Sorry, in bad taste. R.I.P.
