Baylor player Silas Nacita sent this out today on Twitter. Not a good look for the NCAA.

They have to make some changes. I don't like the proposed pay for play rules, but there should be a way for a close family friend to help an athlete as long as it has no sway in their decision on where to go to school.

So he can still go to school and not be homeless, he just can't play football. It's not a total loss for the kid.

Something odd about that situation. If he can establish relationship with "close family friend" predates his classification as a prospective student athlete then he should be good to go.

Walk on, no meal plans for walk ons.
Academic scholarships don't pay for dorms or meal plans at Baylor. I had a pretty significant scholarship there and was still paying around $8K a semester.

He isn't permanently ineligible. He can work through it with NCAA and regain eligibility.
He was a contributor last year for Baylor, too. Briles can help matters by offering a scholly once one comes available.

I'm not saying that this isn't against the rules, it just shows that the rules just suck sometimes.

Yea but the NCAA tends to cater to the big players in CFB. That's why they don't care about scrub Baylor's scrub walk-on. That's why you have to be extra good when you're the Baylors of the world.

I just think it's garbage that the NCAA throws a kids chance possibly out the window because he accepted a place to live.
If he was a regular student, nobody would care where he slept or if he paid for it. But because he's a football player and not on scholarship, he's held to a higher standard? Unless it's the school paying for it surreptitiously in an effort to skirt the NCAA's scholarship limits, why do they even care?
