No mention of cumming in the chili and peeing on legs? He was probably the smartest pitcher ever.

The greatest thing about Maddux is he never had an overpowering fastball that carries many of the pitchers today. Notice how when guys like Justin Verlander lose the speed on the fastball they all become mediocre pitchers because of how the relied on it. Maddux had a backdoor cutter that literally would move all the way across the plate like a thing of beauty. Watching him pitch was artistic in the same way watching Tony Gwynn hit was. He will forever be my favorite Brave and I still have his rookie card.

Yep, the awesome movement on Maddox's pitches is what separated him from the rest like Glavine who, while a solid pitcher, had very little movement on any of his pitches.

I remember watching him warm up once at Turner. The catcher would put his glove on a corner and Maddox would hit it a few times...catcher didn't have to move his glove an inch. Then he'd put it on another corner...same thing...rinse, repeat...over and over.

The guy had total command....it was really amazing to watch.

Dale Murphy was 2-for-34 against Maddux in his career. Both hits came in the same game, a loss to Maddux and the Cubs.

Maddux started 740 games. In 236 of them, he didn't allow a walk.

He went to a 3-0 count to five batters in 1997. He faced 893 batters that season.

He walked the leadoff hitter of an inning in 0.3 percent of the time.

He didn't allow a triple in 1995 or 2000.

Maddux had 24 quality starts in 25 attempts in 1994.

He gave up as many home runs in his first five seasons with the Braves (1156 innings) as Bronson Arroyo did in 2011.

Maddux's career batting average on balls put in play (BABiP) was .286 -- the same mark as Bruce Chen, and higher than Scott Elarton

That is amazing consistency. Him, Chipper and Smoltz are my favorite Braves of all time. Them and Bobby. I have never heard a single bad word about Bobby from any ex-players. Even the notorious hot-head Gary Sheffield only said, "Bobby treats you like a man".
