| Phil Fulmer getting inducted into the CFB HOF LINK I guess it's just the way it ended in Tennessee, but I guess I never thought of him as a hall of fame quality coach Good for him though This post was edited on 5/15 at 11:26 am Reply Back to Top |

quote: He gets a lot of heat, and I wouldn't want him. But you have to look at it like this: He won the east the second most times after Florida during a time when Florida was the class of the SEC. He has the second most SECCG appearances all time. He won the first BCSNC. He won the East in a year where Georgia fielded, if not its best, its most hyped team since probably Walker was on the field. That team was incredibly bad, by SEC East winning standards, but the coaching job that year was tremendous in my opinion. I think he ran out of steam to do it the way he had when he first got there. 17 years grinding with a D Coordinator who doesn't bring a lot to the table recruiting-wise will do that. tl;dr Cliff notes: it probably is the way it ended but he did some noteworthy things at UT-k. quote: You are free to disagree, but I am surprised you wouldn't admit that the 2007 Vols team was the worst UT-k team to play in the SECCG. I thought that was pretty universal. Reply Back to Top |

quote: I thought you were talking about the 98 team. I agree, the 2007 team was mediocre at best. I don't think it was that great a coaching job, though. They really just played well against Georgia and got lucky with the schedule. Reply Back to Top |

quote: ROSTER To win the East with that roster is a good coaching job. There is absolutely no way around it. The best player, and I guess there could be some debate here, was Britton Colquitt. Who scares you on that team? Ainge? Foster? Hardesty? Meh. Yet they won the East. I think that is a good coaching job. Reply Back to Top |

quote: With their backup quarterback with a cut hand. You are free to love on the 2007 vols if you like. ETA: Crushed by Bama. Lost to Cal. Crushed by Tebow. This isn't controversial, people. This post was edited on 5/15 at 11:38 am Reply Back to Top |
quote: They weren't as good as the 2006 team, but they had their moments. Shouldn't have gotten blown out like they did in their regular season losses, but the Arkansas and Georgia games were things of beauty. The Arky game was a tremendous coaching job. quote: Yeah, Arian Foster really sucks. They pounded Georgia and stopped Darren McFadden. Other than that, they really just didn't do anything special. They came dangerously close to losing to South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky, and they got embarrassed by Florida, Alabama, and a bad Cal team. Reply Back to Top |

| back to back SEC titles in 97 & 98 (no one has done it since) and 5 losses UT had over a 4 year period (95-98) have never been repeated in the SEC. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Great pro, but we are talking college, no? I understand he has the Vols rushing record, I think. But my understanding of Vol football leads me to believe he took it from Gerald Riggs Jr. and they both only held it because the studs from UT-k left early. Foster has more yards than everyone probably because he has more carries than anyone. Again, I will defer to the vol fans if this is completely off base. ETA: All time leader is Travis Henry and he did it in 14 less games than number 2 Arian Foster (96 fewer carries). This post was edited on 5/15 at 12:57 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I have never understood the dislike for Fulmer. He always seemed like a decent man to me. Well-deserved. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
