According to ESPN.com's Joe Schad, Brandon Lafell will skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft. This is according to two sources close to the junior wide receiver. Les Miles has not confirmed this info, actually stating that Lafell is still undecided.

Ciron Black and Charles Scott held a press conference today at 2pm CT and announced their intention to stay at LSU for their senior season.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft is Thursday, January 15.

In recruiting news, Rueben Randle, the highly coveted WR from Bastrop, LA, told ESPN 97.7FM (Ruston) yesterday that his list of target schools includes LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, Miami and Ole Miss. He said that he really hasn't made a decision yet and plans to make his decision on National Signing Day.

You have to think that the departure of Lafell will help LSU's chances of landing Randle.

In baseball news, LSU is No. 2 in the 2009 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason poll released Tuesday. North Carolina is ranked No. 1. Click here for the complete poll.

In basketball news, the Men's Basketball team has its home SEC opener against South Carolina tonight at 7pm CT. The game will be televised on Cox Sports Television and the radio broadcast will be available on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network.

LSU enters the game 12-3 (0-1 in SEC) after losing to Alabama on Saturday, 65-59. South Carolina is 12-2 (1-0 in SEC) after winning 68-56 over Auburn this past weekend.

LSU AD Joe Alleva has been pleading with fans to help improve the attendance of the home games. In a recent email sent out to LSU season ticket holders, Alleva stated the following:
quote:

LSU men's basketball has averaged a paid attendance of just short of 9,000 fans per contest for games in the Maravich Center in the pre-SEC schedule. That is second best among all teams in the SEC West. But that is PAID attendance. The actual attendance average was only 4,401 for our first 12 games at home.

That comes to a disturbing average of 4,576 no-shows per game. Just think how different the atmosphere in the Maravich Center would be if there were actually 9,000 screaming Tiger fans there every game.

That's all for today. I will keep you posted on any new developments.

Loss of Lafell will be eased if Rueben Randle commits to LSU. If RR was an LSU lean prior to this news, then this could be the news that seals the deal...I am at least hoping.
