Former LSU star quarterback and No. 2 overall NFL Draft pack Jayden Daniels took to social media on Thursday to share that he is sticking with No. 5 as his jersey number with the Washington Commanders.

To get No. 5, Daniels had to make a deal with Commander's punter Tress Way that involved tickets to a future LSU-Oklahoma game.

What’s the deal with these player numbers? Why does a punter “own” his number? These deals always strike me as odd. Why doesn’t the team just say, “Hey, punter, we got a franchise QB that wears the number that you had last year. You’re getting a new number next year because he’s wearing the one you wore last year.”

Like there’s any particular value to a “commanders” jersey of any number.
