Ed Alexander Ruled Out For Syracuse Game, LSU's DL Depth Gets Thinner

LSU nose tackle Ed Alexander has been ruled out for Saturday's game vs. Syracuse, according to head coach Ed Orgeron.

Alexander suffered an injury against Mississippi State last week and was spotted on the sideline during the second half of the game with a cast on his right hand.

The absence of Alexander is another blow to LSU's defensive line depth as the Tigers are already thin at the position.

Starting defensive end Rashard Lawerence has missed the last two games with an injury and nose tackle Greg Gilmore has moved over to the end position to fill his spot.

Orgeron is hoping to get Lawerence back this week allowing Gilmore to go back to his natural position with Glen Logan backing him up.

ED ORGERON: Well, here's what we're hoping, okay; we're hoping that we can move Greg Gilmore back to nose tackle. Rashard Lawrence may play this week. If he does, we can back up Greg with Glen Logan, who played 56 plays and did pretty good at nose tackle on a -- without much of a notice. And I thought Pete Jenkins did an excellent job of coaching him, and behind him will be Neil Farrell, but we're very thin there, and it's an area we need to do a better job of recruiting and maybe have to go get a couple junior college guys to help us out there.

Two players that could easily help the Tigers D-Line depth are true freshman nose tackle Tyler Shelvin and Texas Tech defensive lineman transfer Breiden Fehoko but neither are eligible to play until next season.

Orgeron commented on both players during his weekly Monday press conference and also talked about D-Line recruiting.

When asked about senior defensive lineman Frank Herron, Orgeron chose not to talk about him. Herron has not played this season.

Who was responsible for recruiting the Dline the past few years? Was if the recruiting coordinator and Dline coach by any chance?

I read that many pro Les Miles commits left over the offseason.(approximately 11) I would not put past Les Miles to be involved in something like this if it is in fact true.
