LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers has been one of the top performers in practice this fall and could be set for a big year after eliminating distractions, coach Brian Kelly said.
quote:

"His skill level has always been there," Kelly said. "His ability to come out every single day, maintain his emotion, and focus on what's important: being at his best during practice and not being distracted by anything. I thought, at times, he got distracted, quite frankly. He had some up and downs during his practice."

"This year so far, very little to no distractions have put him in a position where his practicing has consistently put him at a high-high level. If he stays at that level and eliminates distractions, he's in line to do some really special things."

The awkwardness of everyone knowing he was better than Kayshon but he still got treated like the #2 because he had to be in order to keep Kayshon “happy”

He's saying Kashone Boutte was the distraction.

100% correct, Boutte with a toxic cancer to the entire locker room & especially to the WR core. Nothing but one big distraction that destroyed everyone’s focus to a certain degree, especially the ones he spent the most time with. glad Boutte’s gone

Nabors also threw JD5 under the bus towards the end of the season (deservedly so), but probably not something you say to the media. Malik's head appears to be in a much better place.

Where are y’all getting this from? Was Boutte an individualistic person? Absolutely. But a distraction? He wasn’t the loud and obnoxious type or causing locker room fights. Moody maybe, but not a source of distraction. He’s referring to off the field stuff for Nabors.

Imagine how good he could have been last year with this type of focus. Excited for him and what he can do if he stays this focus long term!
