Grand Valley State defensive tackle Jay'viar Suggs announced his commitment to LSU on Wednesday night.

The Tigers offered Suggs last week, right after he released his list of top schools that did not include LSU.

After receiving his offer, Suggs made LSU one of his top four schools and planned a visit to Baton Rouge this past Sunday. He committed to the Tigers over Michigan, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

Suggs, a 6-3, 282-pound sophomore from Flint, Mich., registered 42 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 8.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and nine passes defended over the last two seasons.

He will add much-needed depth to LSU's interior defensive line after the team lost Maason Smith, Mekhi Wingo, and Jordan Jefferson to the NFL Draft.

..."nine passes defended"? Does that mean blocks/tips or is he actually backing up into coverage?

He looks pretty small for a DT....lets hope Davis coaches up that whole room as otherwise it will be 5yds up the middle everytime before anybody touches the RB or QB. LSU's Offense will have limited touches and the D will be worn out in the 4th quarter not a good combo

Good job winning the bidding war, but odd timing after the interview last week.

I do not think we will have any "stars" on the DL. But Guillory is a legit SEC starter. If we have him and 4 or 5 other guys who maybe are are solid rotational level, we may be ok. Just curious who the other starter will be.

He says he is 295 pounds so at 6’3 he is good size for our 3 tech. Wingo was 6 feet even and 300

Depth's arse, this dude is good. Watch his film if you haven't already. Doesn't matter that he was in D2, he's a game changer.

Of course being at a D2 school matters. The SEC makes a D2 school look like high school programs- I’m not saying he won’t be good but let’s not pretend the competition is anything close.
