Record last week: (1-1)
Kentucky 71, LSU 69
LSU 73, Tennessee 55

Week Summary: LSU had the nation on the edge of their seats as they were taking the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats to the wire. The Tigers held a late 6 point lead before allowing the Wildcats to win by two. Still, LSU played a very good game against a team that may be the best team we've seen in college basketball in a while. They followed up their emotional loss with the best half of basketball they've played all season. On the road at Tennessee, the Tigers took a 47-20 lead into halftime. The Tigers couldn't hold up the same pace in the second half, but still pulled out an 18 point win 73-55.

Streak: Win 1

Top performer: Jordan Mickey scored 36 points and hauled down 18 rebounds in the two games this week. He also swatted 11 shots, including 7 against Tennessee. Mickey has been dominant both on offense and defense and threw down an impressive, cradle rocking windmill dunk against Tennessee after he stole the ball on defense.

Cause for Concern: The Tigers are in 5th place with 6 SEC games remaining. The top 4 teams get a two round bye in the SEC Tournament, so LSU is outside the threshold of where they want to finish the season. However, they play at Texas A&M on Tuesday night who is just 1 game above LSU and still play Ole Miss at home who is also just a game above LSU. A strong finish is absolutely paramount for LSU to accomplish their goals for this season.

Top Team Stat of Week: The 47 points in the first half against Tennessee was the most by an LSU team in an SEC game in Coach Jones' tenure. It was a nearly flawless first half.

Rankings and Standings:

ESPN RPI 50 (LW:51)
BPI 38 (LW:42)
KenPom 31 (LW:43)

Breaking the trend: After making less than 70% of their free throws in 4 straight games, LSU knocked down 78% (14/18) of their free throws against Tennessee.

Best game by a non Big5 player: Against Tennessee, Brian Bridgewater was able to play 8 good minutes. He scored 4 points on an ally-oop dunk (first dunk of career) and 2/2 free throws.

LSU Opponent who made noise: Sam Houston St won both of their games last week and have moved into first place into the Southland Conference at 11-1 in league play. They are 20-5 on the season and will be heavy favorites in the remainder of their games until a huge season finale against 10-1 Stephen F Austin (SHSU's only loss).

Interesting Stat of the Week: Jordan Mickey's 7 blocks against Tennessee tied his career high. He has blocked 7 shots on 4 occasions (3 this year). Jordan Mickey leads the NCAA in blocks and blocks per game with 85 blocks and 3.7 per game. (Note: Robert Upshaw averaged 4.47 blocks/gm before being removed from team with Washington)

Most Dominant SEC Win of the Week: Kentucky 77, South Carolina 43 - While LSU had the most dominant half against Tennessee, Kentucky had the most complete game against a struggling South Carolina team. UK led 43 to 18 at half and outscored South Carolina 34 to 25 in the second half to win by 34 in Rupp.

Biggest SEC Upset of the Week: Georgia fell victim to another bottom tier SEC team knocking off a team looking to make the NCAA Tournament. Auburn wasn't given much of a shot against Georgia before pulling out the 69-68 victory, but Auburn was able to score 4 big points in the last minute to pull off the huge upset.

Recruiting News: An LSU coach went to go see 5 star combo guard, Kobi Simmons, last week. It was the second time this month that LSU has sent a coach to see him. He plays for the same AAU team (Atlanta Celtics) that Tim Quarterman played for in Georgia.
