Coach K Appears To Fire Back At Nick Saban's Complaint
© Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports
Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has said that he didn't retire because of NIL and the transfer portal, but it certainly played somewhat of a factor...
quote:

“All the things that I’ve believed in for all these years, 50 years in coaching, no longer exist in college athletics,” Saban said in Washington, D.C. last week. “It always was about developing players, it always was about helping people be more successful in life. My wife (Terry) even said to me, we would have all the recruits over on Sunday with their parents for breakfast, and she would always meet with the mothers and talk about how she was going to help impact their sons and how they would be well taken care of."
Meanwhile, former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski is imploring everyone to stop complaining about the current situation...
quote:

"I didn't retire because of the new environment in college sports. It would've been exciting to try to adapt to that. You have to keep adapting. This is the biggest adaptation, I think, in the history of college athletics," Krzyzewski said on the Dan Patrick Show. "It's not been coordinated. You don't even know who to call into a meeting to discuss what needs to be discussed. This has been three years now, Dan."

He continued: "Instead of complaining about what it is, just accept the fact that this is a new time. Just because it isn't like the old, doesn't mean it's not okay. This is what it is, and we should figure out how to do what it is in the best interest of everyone."

Saban was talking to congress. The rest of those nobodies were talking to reporter Ralph.

Saban is a bitch and mediocre at the actual coaching. The moment the playing field is leveled and he can’t stack his roster with 4 deep 5 stars, he runs like a little bitch

He sure stacked you guys with Ls.

I hate Nasferatu but the old rat looking dude sure won a lot of basketball games with players that all went to the NBA and were busts with the exception of a couple. Or at least they got in the NBA and didnt live up to their expectation.

Now that Saban is not coaching, it will prob be the norm for people to take stands opposite him. Before, he sat as the king of CFB and now he is retired. Maybe they will take off the "immortal" status and go after him. Most people in the past kinda didn't want to fight that dog. Wondering how this will translate into his retirement.

I’m wanting more context.

Did he say this right after the Saban quote was relayed to him?

I dont think Nick would take k’s crap.

Geez. Retire before it starts then act like you would have been fine with it. Worst quote of coach K’s life. What a trash take.

There is no comparison between how this affects basketball and football. Might as well be a different planet.

Coach K, you coached 12 guys at a time, Saban coached and recruiting 10 times this

K is clue about NIL...it isn't anything like football, football pays the bills except at Duke

I'd bet Duke football still earns more than the basketball program. I was shocked when I saw how much more Kentucky's football program earns vs is basketball program. And Kentucky's arena is like 4-5x bigger than Duke.

Doesn't Kentucky's arena belong to the city? Isn't their arena not on the campus of Kentucky?

Coach K is about winning at all costs, Saban is about turning kids into young men. That is now abundantly clear.

To Coach K - the best interest of everyone is NOT a 20-21 yr old driving around in a 150-200K vehicle and/or living in a penthouse vice the already upgraded athletic dorms. A predetermined stipend (i.e. 1K FR, 2K SO, 3K JR & 5K SR p/month) with an annual esculator for inflation would have worked fine. The player at Duke or Bama would get the same at Ga Tech or Vandy. Level field with some financial benefit to the student-athletes. Press on.

Maybe the same stipend but the under the table money is how Duke and Bama games the system as long as they did.

Basketball has been openly paying players for decade or more so not much has changed

Saban walked out on 3 teams and make hundreds of millions of dollars off the backs of college students, now he's complaining about them getting a taste? Hypocrite.

Saban's problem is that everybody can do it now, not just Rammer Jammer. Proof: Sunday morning breakfasts' with recruits and parents at the lakefront mansion and handing them their checks on the way out.......

AGREE 100%, what sanctimonious little prick. he left every time for money or lack of control... now that the field is level him and his wife concoct a holier-than-thou attitude about a sport in transition which he is quitting on again.

College sports has a lot to figure out here if it wants to host over 25-plus sports and support Title IX ... not an easy answer

Support title 9? That went out the window as soon as the boys dressed up like girls and the ncaa allowed it.

If I had to choose between a basketball coach and football coach ragarding dealing with the BS of nil and personnel management, I'm going with bb all day. You're talking about a fraction of the people you've got to deal with, and if anyone has ever been in management, more people = more headaches.

He really didn't disagree with Saban. He said this was not coordinated, which it hasn't, and it needs to be figured out how it needs to be done in everyone's best interest.
