2 of the 3 best SEC coaches of the 21st century had no ties to the South

Nick Saban - midwestern resume in Ohio and Michigan
Urban Meyer - midwestern and western resume in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, and Utah
The worst thing we could have done is limit the search to former Saban assistants like we did for two decades after Bear Bryant.

Will be 3 of 4 here in a few years when BK is added to this list

Ummm…..
West Virginia was part of the South prior to 1863.

Having no ties to the South isn't necessarily a bad thing if you make the right assistant hires.
It seems as if DeBoer wants to bring most of his staff with him though.

The entire "cultural fit" line is a canard.

I see you Bama fans have been doing homework to help convince you Deboer is a good hire. Well done.

West Virginia was literally created to be a union state

Thanks for that relevant history lesson from before football was invented.

Congratulations. You got the next Saban on the first try.

Why don’t you think he’s a good hire?

This narrative that a coach has to "fit in"geopgraphically with where he's coaching has been disproven time and time again yet it gets pushed everytime there's a major vacancy/hiring.

Never said he wasn’t.
My caution has been slow down with the HR hire label. He might be, but he has a lot to prove at Bama no?

Hire an SEC guy from Saban’s coaching tree (basically everyone at this point) and they never get to run their own program - constantly questioned as to why they aren’t coaching the way Saban taught them. It wouldn’t work. I prefer the clean breakup with someone who isn’t hired to copy or be another Saban.

West Virginia is every bit trailer park trashy as Alabama.

To the contrary we hired someone with no expectations of coaching like Saban because he has never worked for him or for anyone else who worked for Saban. Its the total opposite of a bunch of idiot Bama boosters trying to bring back a good ole boys club.

BK has proven this is bullshite. To me, the biggest worry with this hire is his lack of years as a head coach. This is Bama we’re talking about. That doesn’t mean it won’t be a great hire in the long run. But that would just be my concern, that and the fact that he had such a good quarterback for the last two years too….would like to have seen how he would have responded w/o Penix to fully judge if he is the right guy for the job. Kind of a gamble on Bama’s part.

Bammers are trying everything to justify their 8/win per season
Posted on 1/13/24 at 9:55 am to MillerLiteTime
What if he makes ties, since he's moving to the South? What if he crowdsources his ideas and philosophies from the HS coaches who critiqued the hire to the paper?

You don’t think Bama fans will heap high expectations upon Deboer and not get restless if he doesn’t have recruiting classes and always in the mix for SEC and NC championships?
That’s rather naive if you ask me. I think he looks to be a very good coach but can he actually handle the situation he now finds himself in? Only time will tell that story. I do think he was one of three or four that you could have hired to make the best chance for a new transition from the Saban era.
