There's been a consensus dislike for 11 a.m. CT kickoffs to Alabama football games for a while. However, it was reported that SEC Network can delay start times as soon as the 2024 season.

"Desiring an all-day SEC football feel, SEC Network game start times can now be pushed back 45 minutes to lead to more staggered finishes, i.e. moving from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. CT. kickoff time," 247 Sports' John Talty and Alex Scarbrough write. "A typical SEC Network slate would now look like 11:45 a.m. CT, 3:15 p.m. CT and 6:45 p.m. CT while ABC and ESPN games would keep their typical start times. The SEC and ESPN will have the ability to flex ABC and ESPN afternoon and night games a limited amount of times per school."

Additionally, the SEC will continue with its 8-game conference schedule for at least the 2025 season.

This news comes about one week after the Alabama football team announced its April 13 A-Day spring scrimmage will be broadcast on ESPN at 3 p.m. CT.

Also in February, UA also announced which date on the 2024 football schedule will serve as the yearly homecoming game — the October 26 matchup with Missouri. Alabama is 88-13-1 all-time in homecoming games, and is currently on a 21-game win streak in such games.

South Carolina’s added another former head coach the coaching staff.

Mike Shula recently joined the program as an offensive analyst, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said on Wednesday afternoon. Shula was with the staff on Tuesday morning for the first day of spring practice.

“In this business, you’re always looking to bring in knowledge, guys that can help you,” Loggains said. “Mike is a guy I worked against a long time and coach (Shane) Beamer had known as well. Got a ton of respect for him as an offensive mind and quarterback guy, so we had a chance to hire somebody and that’s why we brought him (on staff). … From a resume standpoint, character standpoint, person standpoint, he makes us better.”

Shula was hired as a replacement for Sean Ryan, a long-time assistant coach in the NFL, who was on staff at South Carolina in 2023 as an offensive analyst. Shula was a senior offensive assistant for the Buffalo Bills for each of the last two seasons. Ryan is now back in the NFL, working for the Miami Dolphins.

The crappy music playlist during practice that's being reported has me concerned.

No Metallica, no AC/DC, no GNR...but then again, I'm in my 40s lol.

I’m super encouraged by what I hear from DeBoer - and really all the coaches for that matter. But CKD does not sound or seem like he is in over his head at all (I know, I know. it’s early, let’s see how it plays out). I’m so damn excited for this season though.

Not saying Bama wins it all next year (although that'd be amazing) but I get the feeling Bama is going to be WAAAAAAAY better than a lot of the "experts" (extreme sarcasm) think.

I think a lot of these dumb ***es have been sick and tired of Alabama for a long time now and desperately hope Bama becomes about on par with Ole Miss (avg record of 8-4 or 9-3).

IMO, how far this team goes next Fall depends on improvement of the Offensive line and Milroe improving from a mental standpoint. If both of those things happen, Bama could go a long way in the playoffs and maybe even win it.

It'll be interesting to see how the offensive line and Milroe do running DeBoer's scheme, but I'm most interested in seeing what the defense looks like. I have no idea (i) what Wommack's system will look like with 4 and 5 stars at every position, and/or (ii) how it'll hold up against offensive schemes like UGA's.

We played a lot of 4-2-5 . Turner and Braswell were DEs basically . You can change up sone personnel wise but it’s basically the same . I think the difference is going to be in the secondary coverage . Coaches have been talking about “getting eyes “ on the QB and ball so I assume we may see more zone coverages than we normally see IDK. Will be interesting

DeBoer has his work cut out for him. We play 5 teams that finished last year in the top 13. The potential is there to be great, but it's hard to imagine a tougher year 1 replacing the GOAT. I'm excited to see how this team steps up in a completely new system.

During DeBoer's presser yesterday, he kept referencing Saturday. Is there a scrimmage tomorrow or is that just the next practice?

Anyone going to any scrimmages before A-Day?

He said it was scrimmage-like. I don't think it's a real scrimmage based off what he said.

During the Saban regime, I think they tended to have two Saturday "scrimmage practices" in the Spring and Fall.

Close, but not accurate quite.

"Only 12 of a team's 15 practices can have contact, and the first two must be non-contact. Of those 12, only eight can involve full-fledged tackling. Of those eight, only three can devote more than half their time to 11-on-11 scrimmaging, and the spring game counts as one of those three. So teams only get two pure practices of 11-on-11 scrimmaging.""
