Double first base?? Not understanding, this isn’t Intermural softball.

Would have been beneficial during the Alabama series…

Bout time. No sense in risking unnecessary injury

I honestly dont hate the idea in general bc it gives more space to prevent injury whilst not giving either player an advantage or disadvantage
quote:

If there is a play on the batter-runner and the batter-runner touches only the white portion of the double base and the defense appeals prior to the batter-runner returning to first base, it is treated the same as missing the base. Penalty: Batter-runner is out.

But that being said... I dont like this part of the rule-- runners shouldnt be penalized for only touching the normal base.

“After a dropped third strike, if the fielder is drawn to the side of the colored base, the runner would go the white base and the fielder to the colored base. On a dropped third strike, the fielder and batter-runner may touch either the white or colored base.”

This is odd to me. What if the fielder goes to one side then swaps to the other side does the runner have to swap which one they are going to?

I thought the same thing but then they followed it up w

So I guess it doesnt matter on a dropped 3rd strike its whatever is easier.
I think its just saying they have options.

But also to your point,if they both touch the same base on a dropped 3rd strike, it doesnt clarify what happens so im not sure

This feels like softball to me, collisions happen sometimes in sports and you can’t safety proof everything. But maybe it’ll be a good thing.

I feel like this isn't only about collisions though. This also eliminates umpire discretion (which is good) on running lane violations, which seem to happen much more often in the post season.

If you have a bad throw what difference does it make? Baseball has been around for well over hundred years; why this nonsense now? It’s beyond stupidity,

I had to look it up. It's what it sounds like. A base next to a base, one is white and is positioned inside the foul line, the other is orange (at least in the example I saw) and is positioned next to the white first base on the outside of the foul line. The white one is for the fielder and the orange one is for the base runner.

I think it’s funny that this is of course happening the year that 5 teams are 13-17 and have important games coming up. Whereas usually the SEC Tournament has a real impact on like 2-3 teams max.

I always hated drop third strike. It’s a live ball if base runners want to go they can go but the batter should be out.
