re: The Episcopal Church unveils the new LGBTQ+ Pride Shield

The church of my childhood and young adulthood has left me so far behind that it sickens me to wonder what happened to my Reverends.
Several years ago I searched for them and all are deceased, even those only a few years older than I. I would have listened to their guidance or at least to the rea...

We've been gone from Louisiana for not enough years. I still hate the OMV for the hours I spent standing in lines, year after year. (Almost as much as New Orleans city hall, Entergy and the S&WB.)...
re: Why aren’t more houses made out of concrete in Louisiana?
Posted by real turf fan on 5/28/24 at 12:42 pm
A friend in Metairie was an insurance agent and one client bought a concrete house and asked him to find insurance for it. He had a hell of a hard time because there were no numbers for concrete houses surviving or not storms, floods etc in Louisiana.
If it's hard to get insurance, I could imagi...

re: Anyone watching the new season of Doctor Who?
Posted by real turf fan on 5/27/24 at 1:30 pm
Tom and Lorenzo mostly cover fashion and RuPaul.
Sometimes, they cover TV shows and they have put up a huge description of the new Dr. Who and how they hated much of it on first watch, but on second watch they got interested and changed the way they viewed it. [link=(https://tomandlorenzo.com/2024/...
re: Whose butler is getting their Rolls Royce inspected at Benny’s?
Posted by real turf fan on 5/27/24 at 1:13 pm
In Houston, a dealership near where I worked had two used Rolls for sale. Both were the cost of a new Mustang. I talked to the salesman and asked why he didn't take one of them for his personal car. His answer: I can afford it now, but I can't afford the repair parts or the guy's hourly who does th...

re: What is it exactly that makes Tennessee fans so contemptible?

There is a sad irony when an LSU fan tries to play the
Rampant inbreeding
card.
The PBS station in NOLA years ago did a detailed look at those problems in Louisiana. Most memorable to me was the family condemned to blindness before they were 21. Vivid photos of the children leadi...

No 2023 race on KNoxville tv because of storm watches and warnings coming this way at 60mph.
Even if Knoxville is missed a large part of the northern viewing area (including southern Kentucky counties) is vulnerable.

I was born in 1946 in a county seat medium sized town in Virginia.
As I grew, I learned of the effects of WWII.
Wallace H who lived up the street came back from the war and 'was never the same'. He played bridge a lot and he gave me his seashell collection.

re: Do you know any young men between the ages of 18-26?
Posted by real turf fan on 5/25/24 at 11:21 am
We've recently hired a young man in that age group to help with outdoor tasks (weeding, brush removal). He'd rather be on his cell phone reading reddit.
More recently he told my husband that he'd rather work indoors at a desk job. He has no skills and no ambition. He also has no reason to be exe...

Several years ago we went to southern Europe for two weeks around our Thanksgiving holiday.
A lot of museums were simply closed. The real bummer was a series of rail strikes in Italy that made train travel there unpredicatable. So we went back to Spain and southern France....

I-26 south of Asheville NC: choose to avoid it
Posted by real turf fan on 5/24/24 at 8:49 pm
I-26 close to Asheville used to be miserable. They have sort of finished it, only to start where it ended and mess up all the way to the South Carolina state line.
Yesterday we saw a sixteen mile long slow conga line of cars and trucks.
What was worse for someone passing through, most the the ...
