Why would you compare 1 coach for AU and 2 coaches for Bama? Rhetorical, as I know the answer. Smh

The fact is, Bruce has had absolutely zero success beyond the round of 64 in the NCAAT since Oats arrived. It’s a literal, undeniable fact…that newly minted AU basketball fans can’t seem to grasp.

Even so, Bruce's lack of success has nothing to do with Oats.

You want to count a season prior to Oats getting to Bama, because it makes Bruce look better.

Similarly, you know not to list all of Bruce's accomplishments.

This is adorable. Bama has been relevant since covid, and that is it.

What are you talking about? Will you please stay on topic. I have addressed everything you keep spouting off about. I just told you, if you are being literal about the NCAA tournament, then in the last 5 years, Auburn and UAT have the same amount of final 4s. THERE WAS NO NCAA TOURNAMENT IN 2020. How many times do you like being wrong? I have stated that your team has had more success in the postseason than Auburn. That doesn’t eliminate the success that Auburn has had in the regular season. It also doesn’t take into account of the talent on each team’s roster: again, your team has had way more talent than Auburn ever since Pearl has been there. Auburn has had 3 first rounders, but that’s it. What Pearl has continued to do with nowhere near the talent like UAT has had is amazing. But again, you and other UAT fans cannot be rational or logical about this topic.

Does AU even have 5 SECT wins in program history? Are you guys even caught up to 1970s/1980s Bama yet?

You’re the kind of a-hole that makes me feel stupid about trying to convince your fan base, in your forum, that Bama was a good team and in good shape back in January.

Also, I know you are new to basketball. The tournament is a crapshoot. Oats in the past 2 years has had to play some of the easiest teams. Auburn shouldn’t have lost to Yale this year, that was embarrassing. Last year, everyone knew Auburn would lose to one of the best #1 seeds in Houston. The year with Jabari was another disappointment but lost to a Miami team that went to the final 4. Your team played nothing but double digits and lost to San Diego State in the Sweet 16. This year, you guys had one of the easiest paths I have ever seen in the tournament. You seem to forget that prior to the tournament, your team had lost 4 of 6 and all of your losses in the SEC were blowouts, including to Auburn, who see as inferior. So yea, you definitely need to stick to football because you really know nothing about basketball.

Bro, we get that you are dying on the hill of including a season prior to Bama’s current coach even being there. Good luck with that. Won’t change the last 5 seasons and the Bruce/Oats comparison while they were both in the same conference.

You know what would? Bruce making a Final Four in this millennium. Let’s see if he can do it.

Lots of people get mad at facts. Sorry your 5yrs wasn’t accurate and that I pointed it out.

And our forum had a few new basketball peeps this year that didn’t know what they were talking about, and it even chased off some of the best posters for awhile. You didn’t have to convince me of our status as team. Even with the F4 run, this team overachieved whereas as last years team underachieved (one of the only accurate statements of our new AU poster). Over achieving and under achieving will balance out for a good coach over enough time in the NCAAT.

I am not dying on any hill. You are trying to use semantics again. Your coach has nothing to do with Pearl’s success in the tournament, just as Pearl has no effect on your coach’s success in the tournament. What you are attempting to argue you about is irrelevant. Both coaches have made a final four. Again, you are belittling Bruce’s accomplishments. Success in the tournament needs to be taken into context and isn’t the end all be all terms of success: this isn’t like football. I know you are new to this sport, but again, I can help you learn the intricacies of basketball.

Again, you can’t add. In the past 5 NCAA tournaments, Auburn and UAT have the same amount of final 4s. There was no NCAA tournament in 2020. And then you want to argue about how your coach’s success in the tournament makes Pearl’s accomplishments irrelevant. Again, not true. I’ll say it again, your coach has gone further than Auburn in the past few years. However, that doesn’t equate to being more successful: you completely ignore the talent disparity between the two and that last year your team underperformed and Auburn was not expected to do anything in the tournament. And you again forget that the teams you have played have been pretty easy. I don’t remember during your run you having to play the second best #1 seed in the second round like Auburn did last year. I don’t remember you having to play a 4, a 2 and 1 seed to go to the final 4 this year. I don’t remember you in the other Sweet 16 when half the teams quit and/or couldn’t field whole squads because of COVID playing tough teams. So yes, context matters, but again, just like UAT fans, you cannot think that critically and objectively.

Did you just say half the teams quit or couldn’t field a whole basketball team in the 2021 NCAAT?

Sometimes less is more. Especially when you keep saying wildly inaccurate things over and over again.

BamaBarves,

Oats is on a hot streak, but I still figure Auburn to be Auburn and Pearl to be Pearl. Pearl has done this for a very long time and has coached against many coaches and racked up many accolades in doing so. He is a grown man that knows his purpose. I will take the old bull over the young calf any day of the week. Bruce constantly adapting keeps us in it and keeps our rosters stacked. I dont know why you are so hung up on some 5 year snapshot because Oats the coach is never catching Bruce the coach.

I decided to join this forum and specifically this thread because I do get tired of fans like you who believe they know everything about a sport you haven’t been involved with your whole life and only follow the sport because you have had success in the past 4 years belittling fans who do know a thing or two about basketball. Specifically to this thread, you cannot even say that Pearl is a good coach. That’s how arrogant you and most of the other UAT fans are. You cannot be objective about him. At least I can acknowledge that your coach has had success since he’s been there. That’s the difference between having a constructive conversation and then someone like you who just wants to cause arguments for no reason. Again, I’m here if you want to have actual and meaningful conversations about basketball. But it really says a lot about you that you cannot say that Pearl is a good coach.

Ben, you’re way smarter than this. Semantics is trying to pick up the 6th season, when Bama’s coach wasn’t even there.

No one can take Bruce’s 2019 F4 run away from him, certainly I can’t. But that happened prior to the new regime in Tuscaloosa. Nothing that happened prior to Oats arriving would have any bearing on Oats.

If you want to compare Bruce and Cal, you can probably go back to Cal’s 2012 championship and Bruce’s time at Tenn. but comparing Bruce and Oats only makes sense for the time they were both coaching and recruiting against each other. It’s very possible Bruce makes a deep run in the 2025 NCAAT, and that would help his comparison to Oats.

You definitely didn’t start following basketball until recently. You don’t remember how many teams had to forfeit during the COVID year because of positive COVID tests? I believe there were even like 2-3 teams who had to pull out of the tournament bubble in Indianapolis due to not being able to field enough players. It was the first year where UK, Duke and I want to say one other blue blood didn’t make the tournament in the same year, and it was all because of the COVID restrictions. So, yes, you clearly didn’t watch basketball until after that year.

Other than Bruce not advancing this year in his own side of the bracket, what bearing do you think Bruce had on Oats this final four run?

Brother, I’ve said Bruce was a good coach multiple times in the comparative discussions in other threads. If you needed validation of your coach, you should have just asked.

And I camped out for 2 days to get Bama student basketball tickets about a decade before AU ever became relevant in basketball. So you might want to know your audience when calling people “new” to basketball (hint…AU basketball fans should never call someone new to basketball).
