Also, I think BYE weeks when the seeding is picked by humans and not by record (like NFL) is garbage. That's a huge advantage. And since we can never have objective rankings like the NFL, there shouldn't be BYEs awarded.

I think around 16 and eliminate rent a win games is ideal. The regular season should be concluded by early November with playoff games starting about Thanksgiving. Does anyone enjoy Alabama vs The Air Force Academy? Those kinds of rent a wins are just lousy when it could be Alabama and say UNC with the losers season being over.

and not actually help determine a proper champion.

I think thats where its headed...a champion akin to the NFL model. There will still be SOS inequality but nothing like has happened in the past. 4 -8 team divisions in a super conference playing everyone in the conference and at least 2 from the other divisions every year and a 16 team playoff. No one is interested in UGA and UAB except families that do not get a chance to attend a game in person with an opponent that can sell tickets. a 7-2 schedule would still allow for some of those rent a wins like UGA/GT....if, of course, programs like GT survive being relegated to a lower tier of football - they do it volunarily now but there is the illusion of still playing at the higher level.

As long as fans continue to watch and attend games, nothing will change.

I am guessing you will definitely see change going from three playoff games per year to eleven per year.

Most fans and families simply can’t afford to attend three or four playoff games a year. There is fatigue among the Alabama fan base from a 4 team playoff. I imagine the same can be said for Ohio State and Georgia. This new format will exacerbate the issue.

The reason I like 12 more than 8 is that it adds some incentive to the regular season/conference play.

4 teams get a bye, which makes finishing undefeated or as one of the top 1 loss teams more important. With only allowing conference champions to get a bye, it makes it so teams wouldn't want to rest players during their conference championship game to prepare for the playoff.

Last year, Bama would have won a bye for beating UGA. But if it was 8 teams, then it wouldn't matter who won between Bama or UGA. Both teams would be in the playoff either way. Both would be sitting injured players since the game really wouldn't matter at all.

Every other college football level has a playoff. Every other college sport has a playoff.

The teams getting byes are the four highest ranked conference champions. While ranking the conference champions is a human process, winning the conferences is objective.

With the Pac 12 going away, the majority of the time it will be the Big 10, SEC, ACC and Big 12 champs getting byes unless a G5 conference has an exceptional team. That feels relatively objective.

Not really.

Plenty of sports have "championship meets" rather than a playoff. Swimming. Track and field. Cross country. Gymnastics. I think Golf too (though I'm not an expert... it could be a match play tourney for all I know).

Anything less than 128 teams is a waste of time. Need to be more inclusive. If you think it should be based on merit including just the best teams, you're a white supremacist. You could be promoting suicide because you refuse to take into account the feelings of the fans of the minority teams. If they identify as championship contenders, you should respect that.

Instead of a scoreboard, teams will be judged based on how many activists they have on the team, as well as how diverse they are(aka every white player counts negative).

Sure, eventually things like "making the playoffs" will become as meaningless as "making a bowl game" is now after they added 30+ bowl games. But the important thing is that we've managed to make some people feel better about their lack of accomplishments while promoting an environment where hard work, commitment and success are worthless. And that's something we can all get behind.

Alternatively, you could all frick off and stop trying to fix shite that isn't broken.

Playoff games decided by 1 score or less.

2023 - Michigan/Bama, Washington/Texas
2022 - UGA/OSU, TCU/Michigan
2021 - none
2020 - none
2019 - Clemson/OSU
2018 - none
2017 - UGA/OU, UGA/Bama
2016 - Clemson/Bama
2015 - Clemson/Bama
2014 - Bama/OSU

First round is a bye for 1-4 seeds. Higher seeds host first round games. That helps some, but would get expensive for most.

Then explain college basketball.

Rarely does the best team all season long win the natty and everyone is cool with it.
