Upvote for Uncle Baby Billy and the effort.

Coaches are ultra wealthy for the work they do.

Remember when there was collective shock and outrage when Saban signed an eight year deal worth $32 million when he was hired by Alabama back in 2007? Those were the days.

I remember when he was hired at LSU for a little over a million per year.

At the time, this was considered an outrageous amount.

Bama is paying DeBoer $10M right out of the gate? Good grief.

Washington reportedly offered him north of $9 million to stay in Seattle.

for my part, the outrage wasn’t so much the amount as the buyout terms

it was essentially a Woodward/Jimbo deal a decade earlier

$32 million guaranteed, with zero buyout if he decided to take another gig elsewhere? for a guy who’d never stayed anywhere more than 4 years in his career?

at the time it smacked of desperation, but it’s impossible to argue that it didn’t pay off far beyond expectations

Yep. He was only the fourth coach in the country making over a million a year. Spurrier, Fulmer, and Bowden being the other three. These days there are position coaches making seven figures a year. TV money has changed the profession.

Saban and Jimmy Sexton did more for coaching salaries than anyone in history.

Their bank accounts are all better for it. But the game itself...not so much.

They needed to in order to lure him from Washington and in a few years that probably won’t even be top ten.

He should be on the list, but the terms of his recent contract extension through 2030 haven't been released yet. I suspect it to be around 10 million per year.
