Thieves are creative. One of the biggest camp grounds on Lake Lanier got hit about 10 years back. They came in during the winter and used a 4 wheeler to pull all the copper wire up between campsites. COE had to shut the camp site down.

Could you imagine getting caught stealing the underground wire on federal grounds?

I can’t remember which site but I spoke to a groundskeeper a few years back and I was wondering why the lights weren’t coming on the soft ball field. He mentioned all of the copper in the ground had been stolen. Had no idea it was so profitable.

I built a house in 1990 and was about to pour slab and someone stole all of my copper. After they replaced it, I went out there in my camper and watched until the slab got poured. It was nowhere the price it is today but all things are relative. There must have been enough profit to risk it.
