Miami was #5 going into that bow game.

And they beat the #1 team which leapfrogged them all the way up. Still would have happened.

It was ridiculous for that to happen, but the only way it was justified was because all teams in question had 1 loss.

Miami’s one loss was to Florida (who AU beat)
Nebraska’s one loss was to Miami
Auburn’s one loss was to Texas
Texas’ one loss was to Georgia
Georgia’s one loss was to Auburn
Florida’s two losses were to Auburn and Georgia.

Those were the Final Top 6 teams. Had Auburn defeated Texas in Week 2 and been undefeated there is no way a team that was unbeaten with wins over 3 of the Final Top 6 (and 4 of the Top 8 if you go down to #8 Michigan) would have been leapfrogged by a 1-loss team who’s loss was to a team Auburn had soundly defeated.

It’s already ludicrous it happened in the first place but the loss to Texas is part of the problem. If Auburn wins that game in Week 2 we’d have been a unanimous National Champion.
