There’s just a lot more destination jobs than there used to be. So much money out there with tv deals that coaches don’t need to uproot their lives for a couple extra million when they’re already being paid super highly. Throw in the transfer portal and NIL and it’s easier to compete at power conference schools

And yet that is exactly what caused this whole chain reaction, coaches uprooting their lives and taking other jobs for a little more money.

I confirmed that the college sports I grew up loving are gone and very different.

As mentioned here, players are basically going where the money is. Period. Tradition only matters in that most of the schools with NIL have a 30 year head start paying players….but the field is leveling quickly. Arkansas could never have hired Calipari, but given the NIL commitments Tyson was willing to make…presto,

I won’t even know the names of players on my favorite team anymore…by the time I do, they’ll be in the portal or turning pro.

There is no amateur game anymore, other than High School, and the best of those “recruit” also.
