The FAA doesn’t hire for airline pilots.

Not yet. Right now it’s a big social media push, but there is a legitimate lack of qualified candidates who are women or black. I think the big push right now is to get more of those folks into the pipeline for future hiring.
A rough breakdown of what I’ve seen in each new hire class I’ve been a part of:

All but one of those were women. One black male. Zero POC who were women. All but one of those individuals listed above were exceptionally qualified. The one who wasn’t had a lengthy education background, but really low flight time compared to the rest of us.
An attractive white woman is exponentially more likely to be hired than just about any other demographic right now. It checks one of the correct DEI boxes, and middle aged men are doing the bulk of the hiring.
