I would say it dates from Katherine's cancer fight. I believe Richt redefined his priorities, as anyone would.

I think the PO suicide hit him real hard also. He made character development, turning Boyz II Men (couldn't resist), a top priority, equal or above winning.
I wouldn't want a "win at all costs" coach, its short-sided and fleeting. There is no better feeling than winning clean.

Why should he care?

I thought it was very insightful when we scored late to take the lead and the players and stadium went nuts, he showed not a single change in facial expression. None. Not a wit.

This loss should haunt him and the program. It won't. But it should.

Given the numerous suspensions every year, he's not exactly a world-beater at that, either.

Would Mark Richt Resign? Its called being cool under fire. You really think someone who doesn't care puts in 16 hour days, 6 days out of the week? Do you even know anyone who coaches? High school coaches have no life outside of the sports complex, and they don't have 10% of the headaches college coaches do. He pours his heart and soul into his players, it will pay off.

It ain't paid off in 14 years. Richt does work hard...but most of the time he puts in is doing fund raisers and selling Ford trucks.....the time he spends inserting his heart and soul into his players us relatively small compared to the time he is doing administrative shite and glad handing donors. Nice arena speech though....

It hasn't paid off if NC rings are your only measure of progress.
Under Richt, UGA has become a national brand, a national recruiting power, a perennial top 25 team, and, like it or not, one of the most exciting teams to watch year in and year out (trending up since 2001). He has done this while fighting for money every year, all of our sports programs are underfunded, and excelled despite this added handicap.

I wouldn't trade stability for 1 ring.
Besides Bama, what other NC team has had any staying power?

Bottom line, no one would have these expectations every year if it wasn't for MR. Ill save you the suspense, the grass ain't greener on the otherside.

I do however feel that coaching was a direct result to our loss today. The players did well enough to win.

Except for those two fumbles on the goal line.

I'm not excusing Richt, that squib was one of the most stupid calls I've ever seen. There is plenty of blame to go around though.

Ok. And all the screaming and fist pumping in the world did not help Will Muschamp. Not sure what the point is. There are plenty of coaches that rah rah and have losing records. Plenty of them that turn red in the face and scream at the players when things go wrong with losing records.

Do you really think screaming and yelling makes you a better coach? Tom Landry didn't think so.
