Amelia yesterday. Weather is amazing.
Did have to yell at local Jax affiliate because in the same broadcast they said “Civil Cities Rivalry” “Boarder war” and “Florida Georgia”…no mention of WLOCP.
Still absurd the schools pushed to change the name. How bad is a cocktail party?
With the cost of tickets and level (at least UGA) you have to be to get them, it has gotten more tame each year.
Amelia as always is great. Stores full of both schools attire, banners up, flags (mostly UGA) starting to go up on the beach houses.
UF tickets currently about 30% cheaper.

I used most of my time off on recent paternity leave so this will be a quick trip for me this year. Gonna work a half day Friday then drive down and will get there that evening. I'm staying in a little airbnb about 6 miles west of stadium. Normally we have a big group that plays golf on Friday so I hate I'll miss that this year. Oh well. I love this game and it's going to be an absolute crying shame when it ends up going away just in the name of money. There is nothing in CFB like this game and this weekend.

The surrounding area outside of the game is the worst, no one is complaining about the 3 hrs inside the game
Everything else sucks balls
I can attest, been going there since 1997

I guess we'll just agree to disagree. This will be my 23rd consecutive trip and I wouldn't trade it ofr anything. It's part of what makes CFB different (and better) than the NFL. There is truly not another game like this anywhere in CFB. The fact that Jacksonville has some unsavory portions near the stadium doesn't diminish the overall experience. You walk a few steps off Baxter or Washington St and you'll find some seedy places in Athens as well.

They are about to do a $1B renovation to the stadium and area. I am guessing they will keep the game there. We will see what happens

It definitely will be gone for two years after next year.

1. I am not talking about the game itself, that is fine enough
2. Yes every town is seedy, but in Athens there is also a ton of good places to go. Near that Jax stadium there is literally nothing and the tailgating in a giant parking lot is just blah

My favorite WLOCP was the 1968 game played in a ferocious rain storm. We beat Florida 51-0. Jake Scott's punt returns in that game were amazing. Scott enjoyed fielding returns on the dead run so he positioned himself far from the punter. Every return looked foolishly reckless in that storm. I kept expecting Scott to lose the wet ball but he caught them clean and was gone before defenders could even react.

1990 would have to be the coldest.

Yes, we know. I was responding to WG who was suggesting it was going to go away permanently

Salt Life Bar on Amelia-Had maybe 30 UGA fans. Island is always 90% UGA.
Don’t underestimate how many families have been doing this trip for decades.
Next year home schedule all we have is Miss State, Tenn, Auburn home. UGA making bank off two neutral games.

I know they're going to do a stadium renovation which will force a temporary displacement but my sentiments were more so speculating about the inevitable permanent move based on everythgin we see going on in CFB today. 20 team super leagues, conference expansion that makes zero geographical sense whatsoever, 12 team playoffs, NIL, unfettered transfers, etc. If the *rumors* are true about sticking with a 1/7 scheduling model then UGA/AU, Bama/UT, bama/LSU, UF/LSU, UF/UT, and countless other long standing big time SEC games will go by the wayside. If that happens then it's clear history and tradition literally don't mean shite and money is all that matters. So if that is the case then I'm not sure what chance Jax has, especially since kirby continues to throw gas on the fire by begging for it to move.

Well…I think money might be the only thing that saves WLOCP.
UGA charges us more for the tickets (they keep all that money).
They get kickbacks from reseller.
They don’t have the costs associated with game day but do have travel costs.
I would assume it is a net cash win greater than a home game or it wouldn’t still exist.
Cash is going to be needed in the NIL era.

Couldn't make the trip for this week, but I was on SSI last week and it was the epitome of beautiful and amazing weather. Brought a tear to my eye thinking about those brave souls that would be on Frat Beach today.

Completely disagree. Its some of the best tailgating I've ever experienced.
We've shared out tailgating lot with UF
fans for 25+ years and always have a great time plus tailgating at other lots with other dawg fans.
The scene around the stadium and on St Johns river is one of the most unique in CFB.If you're just tailgating in the stadium parking lot you're doing it wrong.

The beach house we always rent is two blocks from there on ocean ave. Never been in it.
Green turtle tavern is the best hang out on the island imo.

Hit the Green Turtle in Fernandina Beach if you get a chance. Awesome bar food and atmosphere, if you can go by in the a.m. get the best Bloody Mary ever...
Can't make it this year, on a Carnival Cruise for a wedding that fortunately docks in Mobile 45 min from our house in Gulf Shores at 9:30 tomorrow morning...
Only missed a handful of games in the last 45 years.
I'll be home by 12 CST rooting the Dawgs on...
