Taj Boyd isn't your typical pocket passer. All JJ is going to do is chase him toward Ramik Wilson, leaving a tight end open for an 11 yard completion, or a standard Taj Boyd juke move for 19 yards.

Most other games, yes, I like JJ on the outside.

I also don't want JJ on pass protection duty, I'm want him in the center of the action.

Also, I think Grantham might play some Ten Pence, which case JJ's ILB spot will have him doing some rushing around the end...

But even in the 3-4, having the front 3 take 4 blocks will give him ample opportunity to step through the middle and get get Boyd as he steps into the pocket.

ETA:
At OLB, I have no doubt Wilson, Stripling, and JHC could rush the shite out of a quarterback from the outside.

Clemson's spread offense changes it a little bit for me.. closer to Durden's setup.

DE- Smith
NT- Mayes
DE- Drew

More mobility. With any of the following 4 rushing on every play.

OLB- JHC

ILB- Herrera
ILB- Jenkins

OLB- TJ Stripling 6-6 235

S- Matthews

C Bowman
C Swann
C Dawson

No, he needs to stay at OLB and continue to tear it up from there.

Probably depends a lot on suspensions and who's not in jail.

I would guess with Clemons spread that will go with a 4-2-5 nickel look

With the talent we have I can put together a monster 2 deep 4-3.

If Boyd lines up shotgun with 5 receivers from sideline to sideline, we could go full retard and send 9 linebackers + Swann and Dawson.

See how Dabo likes that. Spider Monkey Mindfrick.

I don't know who will start, but I'm sure a combination of picks on here is probably what it's going to be. As far as the sets go, with Grantham back, you'll probably stick with the 3-4.

However, last year the two teams that had the most defensive success against clemsux ran a 4-2-5. That was LSU and USC. (I know LSU lost thieir game, but look at the total yards, and we all know the reason they lost that game is b/c their offense was 1 dimensional.)

Clemson runs the spread, and they will have speed (Sammy Dropkins). They did lose 3 of their top 5 receivers from last year, but OC Morris is back and he's all about the pass. They also lost their best RB.

To beat them defensively you are going to need to get pressure on QB Boyd with less than 4 guys. (We only blitzed 1 time the whole game last year.) That will free up the LB's to help in coverage. Boyd will find open receivers if you give him time, and he can scramble, so it's all about having the pocket close on him.

What's the story on this. All I read was he left the program

Are they really down to two backups

Didn't know it was that bad

Well Boyd is going to need rotator cuff surgery by the end of the season then.

he'll need to be RG4 if they're going to go far with Hopkins and Bellamy gone

The fact that we actually can't decide the best 11 at this point is a positive imo. Versus last year when we pretty much knew.

Hopefully this will bring more competition and depth.

Bellamy was kicked off the team last year. I was talking about Ellington, who graduated. Their next guys up are Rod McDowell and DJ Howard.

I obviously haven't studied Clemson on film.. but based on CHS post on your board about their recruiting, you guys seem to be pretty down on Clemson's OL... I think he says it's good enough to beat their little sisters in the ACC, but still shitty, or something to that effect.

Are they smallish? Or just young? Or just not very good?

Doesn't a 4-2-5 require 4 guys rushing the qb?

Or did you simply mean bringing a 3-4 blitz?

I meant 4 or less guys rushing Boyd.

They haven't put a lot of focus on quality OL and DL recruits since the year Bowers went there.

Thier OL is mostly around 6'4" and 300 lbs. They'll return 4 starters on OL, 2 Jr's and 2 Sr's. None of the guys are particularly athletic. Clemsux's S&C program is mostly about power lifting. They're conditioning has been suspect for years.

That sounds pretty menacing.

I read that the center will be a first time starter, but not a first time player.
