Boise State coach out of the Mountain West. Wonder why Freeze or Kiffen didn't get the call?

Why did Venables turn them down?

Underwhelming. 8-4 inbound so it changes nothing

He will have to get local assistants for recruiting. That will be the difference

His willingness to adapt his offense will be a point of interest as well. Boise under him and Petersen has long run an offense like ours used to be. Lots of pro looks. Under center. Unless he recruits as well as we have that won’t lead to great success.

Meh hire. Freeze or Napier would have been scarier.

Probably the best point yet as to why he will not succeed

His kids play for him at Clemson. It'd be hard to leave that IMO.

Honest opinion. Nobody will know until he gets on campus and starts next year, but I think they made a huge mistake.

Crap, I forgot all about that. You're right. I wouldn't go if I were in the same position.

It sounds like a desperation hire to me. They ran Gus off without any solid leads as to who would take the job. Everyone they talked to turned them down. The new coach has a rough row to hoe.

I would’ve went with 31 year old Joe Brady over this guy.

Maybe it’ll turn out to be a good hire, but it seems like Auburn really picked the wrong year to fire Gus.

I just dont understand the hire.

I think Harsin is a good coach. The thing is, there are a lot of good coaches that get to the SEC and get their shite pushed in.

Harsin was born in Boise. Went to school in Boise, and other than three mildly successful years between Texas and Arkansas State, has coached only at Boise State. Tennessee, Arkansas, and Kentucky are all recruiting in the top 25 in the nation and what does that get them in the SEC? Auburn the brand is going to get some good players, but how is Harsin going to go into a southern kids house and consistently out recruit Saban, Kirby, Kiffin, Dabo, etc. He's going to have to get one hell of a coaching staff.

What about pressure? It seems like Harsin was losing his shite all of 2020 in Boise. I havent read up on everything, but it seems like he caused a lot of people in that community to turn on him.

Jeremy Pruitt is a good coach and good recruiter, but a head case everywhere else and you see what he is doing in Knoxville. Is this Harsin's ceiling?

I thought they would end up with Steele, so a better hire than I was expecting.

Still, I'm not sure he'll be any better (and perhaps outright worse) than Gus, so they're a big $21.5 mil gamble.

Why would Kiffin leave Ole Miss for Auburn. That's like leaving the McDonalds drive-thru for Burger King.

Ill reserve my opinion until his staff is filled out. If he takes Dell I'm gonna be upset.

Venables turns everybody down. He's the rare coordinator who likes being a coordinator.
