I'm on a Grateful Dead kick tonight. I am concerned about TMDawg. He won Hungergames (again) and hasn't been seen since.

Collective Soul for me. Good group from Stockbridge. They have a lot of good music.

December
Heavy
Run
Gel
This

They are the kings of one word titles....but a ton of good music.

Not sure why, but I've never been able to understand the draw to The Grateful Dead. Could never get into their music for some reason.

I grew up listening to it a good bit. They were always my favorite band that my parents played.

Acid really takes it over the top tbh. It's hard to describe, but that changes the GD listening experience. I really got into it (also Phish, WSP, etc.) in college and no turning back now.

The Grateful Dead is usually always on around the hobnail household in some capacity or another, but lately I've been digging deeper into the late 60's Dead for the first time in a few years and haven't been able to get out of that era.

Grateful Dead - Turn On Your Lovelight 8/24/1968

Outside of the world of the Dead- I've been on a huge Julian Lage kick lately. Saw him last week at the Earl and it was incredible. A true jazz guitar master and he is only in his early 30's. His new album "Modern Lore" is some of the more refreshing new music I've heard in some time.

Julian Lage Trio - Atlantic Limited

Julian Lage (solo) - Day & Age

The wild experimentation and relative lack of refinement from that era is awesome.

It was the music that got me into the Dead back in college... wild experimentation and all

It had been collecting dust in favor of the 72-74 era stuff lately, but has currently sucked me back in.

Grateful Dead are my #1 easily.

Such a great band, such a great story...

Amazon Prime's documentary is a must watch.

I always liked phish but never liked GD except the Workingmans’s Dead album, until I was in my 30’s. It grew on me over time. One big turnoff for me is that forever it was just really shitty bootleg tapes that I heard, and never saw them live. In the following years as the internet became a thing, I could hear more studio stuff and higher quality bootlegs so it became easier to like them .

I've always enjoyed how you can't be in a bad mood listening to the Dead. The reason Phish is my favorite though is their ability to get much darker and weirder at times and really push it out there. Plus more funk in some of their late 90s stuff. That fall 97 tour is some of the best shite there is.

I've definitely heard they were very good live. Maybe I need to give them another try. Taste in music can change over time. I'll listen to the album you suggested. There are way too many people that are fanatics about them for there not to be something to them.
