Yeah JJ might be a big time contributer but he won't be a TD. Davis was a 2 time all american that was probably the biggest hitter consistently we've ever had. He was great at S but also came off the edge and got sacks. I believe his junior year he had around 140 tackles, which is insane for a S.

Thomas Davis was essentially playing linebacker with as close as we had him to the line most of the time.

Still a beast in the NFL. I wish we had a safety like him again.

Where did TD go? Wasn't he part of our S&C staff for a while and moved on last season or the season before? I think he could have been a great mentor for JJ. I don't know why but I think this kid is going to be special.

I know a lot of people are worried about the secondary and rightfully so. I mean we lost three players that contributed a ton with TG as DC. But lets just let TG and those players play grab arse over there in Louisville as we blow up the SEC and our competition. Pruitt IS NOT going to put a weak secondary out on the field. Think about it, he left FSU where they just won a NC and I can guarantee you he saw something in our defense where he felt like he could keep his name up there as the top DC in college football. He wants to be a head coach and having a subpar defense will not get him there, and he will be gone in 2-3 years max. So this year will not be a throw away year where he puts out a defense that gives up huge plays and is the reason why we lose games. Our position coaches are very good as well and there will be some LBers like Bellamy or someone else that will step up big behind our starters. We have a good front 7 and Davis, Swann, Wilkerson, Mauger, Moore, Dawson, and Green are ballers. Sit back and enjoy the show we are going to surprise a lot of people and hell we might even surprise ourselves as fans.

It makes me think of the nature vs nurture thing. You have 5 stars like Crowell or JHC that play soft or get in trouble a lot, while 3 star guys like Shawn Williams bring the lunch pail.

I know recruiting is the lifeblood of CFB, but I'll take a 3 star guy who's gonna bust his arse over a 5 star prima donna any day.

Jordan Jenkins played at 265-270 at end of last year. He is now down to 245
Hopefully he picked back up that step he'd lost from '12...

I'm so fired up about our starting 4 linebackers I can't stand it.

Pound for pound, Greg Blue was. I miss him. He'd get flagged these days, but his reckless abandon was appreciated round my neck of the woods.

Nah. Blue may have had more top end hits (mainly, 03 AU and 05 vandy), but Davis had far more and was far more consistent at it.

I made a highlight reel of big hits from the 03-05 seasons by transfering game tapes to a blank VHS. Blue had a handful, all of which were awesome, but 90% of the thing is all Davis. He didn't have ONE signature hit like blue did against auburn, but damn near every game he was laying the wood on somebody. I so so wish I could get that tape put on youtube somehow but I have no idea how to do it. If it even still works.

I'd love to see it. Davis was clearly the better player overall, but Blue was a headhunter. He clearly loved to knock out a receiver when he could.

Thomas Davis was an animal. He was drafted by the Panthers for the sole purpose of slowing down Michael Vick and having a hybrid guy that could play up and help in the run game. He will always be one of my favorite players.
