My expectation to start this season was that Wes is going to need time to put his pitching staff together. I'm confident he can put a staff together of 2-3 starters that are reliable. In my mind, pitching is king in college. If you can get a good staff, you can go far. In the first season, I have seen improvement in pitching, with only what we currently have on the roster.

This game sucks but, I'm ready to see what comes next season and after that.

To be clear, I’m not down on Wes or the trajectory of the program. This was always the inevitable conclusion; we don’t have the arms to make much noise against motivated teams in the postseason.

I just HATE going into games with a chance and basically rolling over. Wes knows what these arms are, we never intended to come into Hoover and actually compete unless someone caught fire or LSU just fricked up.

I’m also still pissed about the Friday game against Florida which is clouding my demeanor

Yea, we always knew pitching was the problem. They’ve had some good points and losing our #1 from a couple injuries hurts. Not sure his status heading to regionals, but it’s frustrating we can’t even hit this chump on the 3rd time through the lineup.
LSU pitching isn’t that good and I thought our bats would carry today.

Anyways, don’t think anyone thought we would be in contention to host, much less hosting a Super. This season has well exceeded expectations. Hopefully we can ride it into recruiting and make another run next year with pitching

im just annoyed because the sec tourney seems cool and fun but i wouldnt know because we have to be the worst performing team in the entire conference when it comes to this tournament.

people say it doesnt matter and yet we also havent had any regional success, either. i dont think baseball is a sport where it's good to have 10 days off, personally.

2 on, no outs with Condon at the plate and grounds into a 5-3 double play. Followed by lousy swings from Phelps and 6-1 headed to the 9th

Losing our last 3 games of the season before regionals is a great confidence booster. I assume we get a 14 or 15 seed, and get bounced out of our own place by the 2nd seed.

It actually might be 9 or 10. The teams behind us haven’t been playing any better. Wake got swept and FSU just went 4-3 against Tech, Pitt, and Stetson with Tech their opponent this afternoon in Charlotte. Oregon St has a worse RPI and a pitiful Q1. NC St could be a threat if they go on a run but our resume is still more impressive

I’m just assuming with us losing 3 in a row, we would drop below FSU and Oregon State if they win a couple in easier conference tourneys.

In rankings, yes. But seeding is about resume not power ranking and unless FSU can stack some wins in Charlotte we still have an inarguably better resume than FSU, OSU, and NC State right now. What sucks is that it’s now out of our hands; other teams can win their way ahead of us and we have no defense

W've alwasy known Wes is a pitching guy so I think we've expected that within short order we'd get some good improvement there, both coaching up whoever he inherited and recruiting his own guys as well.

Honestly though I'm very pleased with his abilities to recruit non-pitchers from the portal as well. Branch, Carter, D Goldstein, Toetz all came from elsewhere. Obvioulsy it sucks losing Condon but Wes has shown to me that he's more than JUST a pitching guy. Some coaches are great at one thing but lousy at the rest but it doesn't appear that's what we have here.

Hosting a regional in year 1 certainly surpassed my expecations. I mean think about that....Wes has ALREADY equaled the best season (hosting a regional) in year 1 that Stircklin had in 9 full seasons. That's likely more an indictment of Stricklin/mcgarity, but still.

I’ll add that Wes having the good sense to bring Will Coggin down from Kentucky and all but cede the offense over to him was a massive step up from the 3 runs and a cloud of dust garbage we got under the previous regime.

Losing Charlie and Corey both is going to be a blow next season. We will also see Toetz, both Goldsteins, Dillon Carter, Clayton Chadwick, Murillo, Gonzo, and Logan Jordan leave (along with a number of relief pitchers).

But Tre looks legit, Kolby is solid, Slate has potential to improve on a .295/double digit HR season. Lukis Farris and Trey King both looked promising earlier in the season. Most importantly, Finley, Kolten, and Zach Harris all should both be back to form the core of what could be a much better pitching staff. It’s going to look like a different squad next year but then this was a drastically different group from last season because of the portal. Would hope this year has been proof of concept enough to get some bigger names to look our way (I would LOVE to steal Drew Burress from Tech; he grew up a huge UGA fan but hated Stricklin)

Hopefully this isn't a 1 off season but you seem to sound kinda pessimistic about next year...

Been a while since we had a chance at a run.

Will watch and pull for the Dawgs.

Anytime you lose generational player and your #1 pitcher, you can expect the team to look different the following year, but I believe with transfers and recruiting, we have the potential to be a more complete team. This is where Wes has to earn it. Most people went into this year thinking it would be a stepping stone. We far exceeded that. Hope it continues

I wouldn’t say pessimistic just acknowledging that we had the best player in program history this season plus an exceptional season out of Collins to help pace the portal guys who came in. We don’t have a complete lineup or bullpen for next year at this point and there’s plenty of time to remedy that (Wes did that once already this past offseason) but until we know who’s coming in it’s hard to gauge what we think we should have

i have no problem saying im pessimistic. we need to win the regional this year with this lineup. pitching is not there so it's probably unfair, but hard not to imagine a step back next year

Some notables from today:

- Oregon State lost which puts their chances of a top 8 pretty much completely in doubt. One less competitor for us.
- FSU beat Tech but plays UVA on Friday (ACC doesn’t do single elimination anyway)
- Tech went 0-2 and is now in danger of not even making the field
- Florida lost which puts them back into a shaky spot for the field with Vandy winning
- Kentucky and Arkansas both lost while Carolina and LSU are on a tear

Doesn’t the PAC do the same round robin as the ACC? We have to worry about OSU still advancing, FSU and NC State making their semifinals after pool play.

Still think we end up with the 10 seed after the debacle of an end
