We convert a lot of third downs.
I do find it funny that people complain when it is working and complain when it doesnt.
We get good yardage running up the middle on first down. We also get good yardage attacking the edges. It is what running teams do.

I've heard he's waiting till late season to break out the treacherous throw, throw, run offense
Bama is so fricked

Run, Run, Pass.
That's simply not true this year. There have been many times we've thrown out on first and second downs.

I just dont like the way we keep playing the run, run, pass plays over and over.
61% of Fromm's passes this season have been on first and second down.

So true. Take Derek Dooley at UTk for examp... never mind.

so on 1st down we are:
43 passing plays to 170 rushing plays - 20% : 80%
2nd down we are:
36 passing plays to 118 rushing plays - 23% : 77%
3rd down we are:
52 passing to 51 rushing plays - 50% : 50%
It's still a heavy dose of run, run, pass... but ultimately... whether anyone wants to admit it or not, it's working. We're converting 3rd downs at the highest rate in the SEC, and 5th best in the nation right now... Stick with what works, whether it's sexy or not, IDGAF.

How does Chaney not catch on to that type of defensive lineup and make changes to the play?
On probably 40-60% of our plays we have a run/pass option. It is up to Fromm, not Chaney on those plays.
If Fromm leaves a run in, then it is what he sees the defense doing. He can check down to a pass on the play if he sees fit.

Except that's not what happened. There were several pass plays on 1st and 2nd down.
I would go so far as to say 25% of our plays in the first half on first down have been checked down to a pass play. In the second half we have such a lead we start running the ball by design to run the clock down.

Considerations...
He has had only 6 pass attempts in the fourth quarter through 7 games.
So basically all 1st and 2nd down plays in the fourth quarter are run plays.
Off the top of my head, I can extrapolate that in Q1,2,3 the run to pass ratio is probably more like 30/70, which means it isn't necessarily predictable or "run run pass" all the time.

That's still 60% of our pass plays occuring on first and second down. That means we are almost throwing it equally as much on every down. The fact of the matter is, we just don't throw it a ton of times because we have a freshman QB with NFL caliber RBs behind an improved OL.
If you want to complain about not throwing enough, that's a different argument.
ETA: General "you", not you specifically.

I'm not complaining in the least. Was just pointing out that by and large, we *are* a run, run, pass sort of team. There's not a damn thing wrong with that either... we seem to be more than capable of shifting the balance as needed, as seen early in the game against Mizzou... we were close to 50/50 before we shifted to running out the clock mode. The end results I didn't notice specifically but would guess roughly 65/35 if I had to.

Also, to DL's point... a good number of our plays are RPO... which option is selected is on Fromm and what he reads from the defense... tough to fault "playcalling" when the QB makes a read and it's working pretty often...

Yeah, I edited my post as you were responding. I wasn't saying you were complaining.

And this is huge. Fromm making the correct check is major for a freshman QB. It shows he sees the defense and what it is trying to do, then decides which play will work. It will be much tougher against Auburn and Alabama, if we make it to the SECCG.
