I haven’t been to Athens since the 90’s and am completely clueless on parking, etc.. Are there pay lots? I couldn’t even begin to know where to Park.

My son is 12 and loves UGA. Huge Zeus fan. He wants to go to the bookstore and get “official” (his words) souvenirs, see the Arches, and Dawgwalk.

I appreciate any help! And if anyone is going I’d like to put names with faces!

That’s awesome! He’ll have a great time and a great year to go to his first game.

I think your best bet is to probably park in a downtown deck and walk. I don’t think it will be overly crowded for that game. The Dawg Walk is going to be at 9:45am, and will not be as crowded as other games.

I would aim to roll into Athens at 8am, park downtown. Walk downtown for a bit, then go through the arches around 8:45am so you can make it to the Dawg Walk at 9:15 to get a good spot.

If you’re not tailgating, gates will open at 10am so you can get in and watch them warmup and stuff. Then head back towards downtown after the game. Let the little man ring the chapel bell and grab a nice spot downtown for a cold one and some watching of other games before you head out

Appreciate it! If we are still #1 rolling into the final game it may be crowded but who knows. My son (and me) is very excited. I believe he's watched every youtube video on Zeus and also Jordan Davis.

Will the bookstore and others be open after the game? Do you know that time the parking decks open? We will be driving up from Savannah that same day.

I still think the easiest way to do it is to park downtown in a spot or one of the decks. Everything on campus seems to be for annual passes unless there’s maybe some spots on Baxter. But the walk from DT is cool and it gives you a chance to hit some stores and buy some gear.

The toughest part in going solo with your kid (I did this a few years ago) is finding something to do between the Dawg Walk and the game. It’s a different deal when it’s just the two of you than having the option of hitting the tailgate for a few drinks before kickoff with your friends.

You will find parking to be very different!

East Campus deck is a pretty good option and a short walk. No parking is super close now. Key is early arrival.

Have a great game.

It’s free to park on East Campus (get there early enough and you can also park free behind Foley Field and Driftmeier which is a more scenic walk onto campus). Either would be a hike up to the Arch and North Campus so if that’s a priority, try to find a pay lot downtown.

DawgWalk for noon games usually starts up around 9am.

Bookstore can get crowded so if you’re going to be downtown anyway, both The Clubhouse on College and Redzone on Clayton are legit with arguably better selections of some things.

Can always do hot dogs and stuff in Sanford but Little Italy downtown is classic Athens for lunch (as I’m sure you know). Chick Fil A is also posted on the corner across from the arch now if you’re needing something quicker (breakfast before DawgWalk perhaps). Otherwise, they have food options around Tate if you need something with better proximity.

A ton of pay lots down Oconee/78. Most are $40-$50 around the downtown area.

The university bookstore is a damn madhouse after the games, but I still stop by every time. If you want to buy stuff after the game, be prepared to stand in a very, very long line.

Just remember, don't let him walk through the Arch.

I parked in the deck behind GA theatre for KY for $20…which I think is closer to the norm.

The Washington St deck is $25 but it fills up fairly quickly most Saturdays.

Thank ya'll so much for the responses. We are leaving very early and hope to find a good spot. I haven't been to Athens in years so it will all be new again.

My son is beyond excited. Do they let people down near the hedges before the game for pictures and all? I know its only Charleston Southern, but I'm excited, too!

Thank you all again! As I said, if any of ya'll are there hopefully we can put faces with names.

$25 to me is worth not driving all over in that traffic looking for a spot.

I did notice a bunch of metered spaces around town on Sat for KY because I was early. Are they monitoring those on Sat? It seemed too good to be true.

Yes, and the area under the bridge is now covered in some cool callbacks to big plays and games and past championship teams. Lot of photo ops to be had in the stadium

Man, getting back to Athens for any reason gets me excited. I’ve been to Athens more this fall than any year since undergrad and it’s been a damn treat. I told my wife yesterday that if I can find a job that will pay me as much as I make now and is at least a lateral move, we’re moving. It really might be my favorite place on earth.

I am in a similar situation here - I went to the USCjr game in 2019 (dont get me started....) and had an easy time parking at the old Chi Psi house off Lumpkin in between the stadium and downtown... is that still relatively easy?

I think I’m going to try and get to this game with my daughter. She loved the Florida game so going to Athens is the next logical step. I haven’t back to Athens in years and I bet it’s gorgeous right now.

Thanks for starting this thread, the info already provided is super helpful
