I don't care whether the failure to get touchbacks is due to strategy or due to inability. Touchbacks are the goal of every team that knows what it's doing and they should be Georgia's goal.

Based on comments by both Mark Richt and Marshall Morgan touchbacks are the goal.

Here are the full stats for everyone wondering:

Higher kicks between end zone and 10 yardline:
25 total, avg. return of 18.16yds, avg. starting spot of 22.92 hardline. Long of 29 (best starting field position was 31)

Other kicks:
8 pooches that resulted in 3 fair catches, 5 returns for an avg. of 12.4 yards, and an avg. starting spot of 29.13 yardline. Long of 23 (best starting field position of 42)

Awesome numbers

1 yard difference in starting position. The hidden statistic is risk.

I'll concede 1 yard starting field position if it means they have 75% fewer opportunities to return it to the house. All day.

Thanks. I spent way too much time getting all those numbers, but I figured I'd distract myself from studying for finals. I'm ok with kicking it out the back every time for sure. I'm also ok with the directional kicking because we did a really good job covering that this season. Having the other team's best return the entire season get to the 31 with the directional high kick around the 5 is incredibly impressive.

And you left this out of yours:

If you knew 100 percent that you could knock it out of the end zone every time, that's what we would do.

But yeah, somehow you think he doesn't want to. The fact that he doesn't kick it out is not evidence that he doesn't want to.

i don't recall seeing any team come close to doing that...so.....
