They did clemson favors by throwing it in the second half. They could have easily ran the clock down running the ball. Saban's team got out coached. frick em

Well i edited bc of that trick play but it seemed liked Hurts looked very uncomfortable under Sarkisian and really didnt do anything until those trick plays.

Yeah, they abandoned the run in the second half. Their back going out probably contributed to that.

8 3 and outs
2/15 third down conversions

I wouldn't say he is some kind of 3rd down specialist that he was hired for

Kiffin knew ways to cover up the deficiencies of that QB. I'd put more of the blame on Saban for letting him go than Sark.

I think it was a couple of factors.

1) Lane was gone = Playbook was scaled back imo
2) Scarb. got hurt...huge loss for Bama
3) Bama's interior Oline was very average last night. Not sure how they have recruited there, but they were getting very little push up front.
4) Clemson Defense is just very good. Once they started attacking the run and forcing hurts to scramble/throw the ball, Bama was in trouble.

Hurts did get the go-ahead score late on a busted play, but other then that, was kept in check most of the night.

Clemson is very talented, very deep and very young on their front four. I think that had more to do with it than anything. Alabama ran the ball well at times, but when they got stopped it was as if they got scared.

PRetty much this.

I didn't get to watch the game.... was getting puked on instead.

But Bama put up 31 on a very good defense. I assume these were all offensive points?

Kiffin's offense struggled often this year. Points by the defense made Kiffin look better on the scoreboard.

Bama's going to be just fine.

ETA- Undefeated SEC champs then beat #4 team in the playoffs (beat dogshit out of them) and then lost NC game by 3 points with a true freshman QB and people are calling this the beginning of a downfall?

With Bamas Defense, 31 offensive points should have been enough.

Bigger issue imo was sustaining drives. Bama's points came on short fields and explosive plays. Not that you don't want those, but Clemson's offense ran like 90+ plays iirc.

It was pretty clear that Clemson didn't respect Hurts as a passer. Neither did Sarkisian, for that matter.

Scarbrough going down changed the game and I don't think Clemson wins if he hadn't.

Alabama did last night what Georgia does to itself every week. It put itself in 3rd and medium to long on every drive due to poor play calling, penalties and drops.
Don't care how good you are, if you are constantly trying to get 1st downs on 3rd and long you're in for a long night.

Kiffin missed a couple of team and staff meetings and Saban cut him loose.

Bama created two turnovers in Clemson territory and Bama got 3 points combined on those drives. Go look at the drive chart and you'll see just how bad the offense was last night. 31 points doesn't tell the story at all IMO.

The SI article with Kiffin house hunting would have pissed me off.

He can look for a house online at home during his off time, and go looking at houses on January 10th.

Him flying around like he's on Love It or List It is unprofessional. Normally the coach's wife will be working on that stuff, but obviously not for Kiffin. His arse was owned by Saban through Jan 9th and Saban wasn't paying him to get schmoozed by reporters and real estate agents.

Kiffin wanted out the minute he secured his job at FAU. That type of ego can't be handle back for long and I feel 3 years under Saban was that limit for ole Freshwater. He knew what he was doing.

All I know if Lame Kiffin must have screwed up big time to get canned one week before the NC. Saban is a control freak and there is no way he would make a change unless something major went down.

Just my opinion but the distraction of a new OC was too much. Has Sarkisian even called plays?
