Taken from /r/CFB user ElBandejo:

quote:

This loss, along with our other two, really do not bother me.

Fact of the matter is, the upperclassman "talent" is a joke (sans Chubb and Michelle, but they're both having down years. Granted, I can't blame either of them. Chubb cannot afford another serious injury and Michelle just wants to stay healthy so that he can impress at the combine to make up for a lack of stats.

As for leadership, it's non-existent among the upperclassmen. I have well placed sources within the program (Example: I broke all the details of Richt's departure a week before anything was announce and everything I claimed came to pass).

My sources within the program tell me that many of the upperclassmen are still a bit bitter about Richt being fired, but the larger issue has been the upperclassmen challenging Kirby at every turn. They believe they're entitled to their starting slots and did not like having to compete with true freshmen for starting spots.

Conversely, the freshmen are squarely in Smart's camp and are the vocal ones on the team. The upperclassmen don't like it and there's team killing friction and resentment all around. Hell, to be honest, there are kind of two teams within one right now...Richt Apologists and Smart Disciples.

We'all all tip our cap to the upperclassmen when they leave, but none outside of Chubb and Michelle will be missed.

Almost all of them have been absolute primadonnas who do not want to put in the necessary work to be great...they all thought they'd skate by on talent alone. It's why we've had so many bizzare and frustrating endings to games during their time.

I don't know about a mutiny necessarily, but it's pretty clear that our upperclassmen haven't done what's necessary to improve over the course of their careers. The only senior that I enjoy watching play is Maurice Smith, and he just got here. It at least looks like he gives a shite.

Likely BS, but it wouldn't shock me, were it to be true. That's what they're playing like. This would also lend credence to the "Kirby needs a team of his own players" line of thinking in order to evaluate him properly.

Mo Smith definitely doesn't take plays off, looking at you Mauger.

A big potential problem is that not only are our upperclassmen potentially more loyal to their former coach, but the also aren't likely pro prospects, so they don't have that motivation to fall in line. Smith and Pyke are really the only seniors with a decent chance to make an NFL roster.

lol, which non-starting upperclassmen actually deserve a top-spot?

Reggie Davis? Douglas? Greyson Lambert?

We are going to be devoid of senior leadership next year too.

With attrition and NFL draft, the guys left from the 2014 class next year will be few in numbers and none of them really contributors.

I would venture that with a power vacuum in the player ranks, Eason and the other Fr/So will step up and take the reins in the locker room. Add to the fact that they'll have the buy-in from the 2017 class, and they'll have the superior numbers.

Defensively, we should have Bellamy, Carter, Parrish, Sanders, Davis, and Atkins. That's pretty good.

Offensively, not much. Wynn, Blazevich (but he won't start and may transfer), Wims. I guess that's pretty much it. At least we'll have guys that have played a lot of football. OL will still be a problem.

I feel like Atkins has been here since 1995.

I don't think Carter will be here.

Isn't there some kind of agreement that Cobb has to break this kind of news here first?

If you read between the lines on the Reggie Wilkerson snapchat a couple weeks back, this all sounds completely accurate.

I was going to mention something similar in the talent vs coaching ongoing debate. Is it really the surprising that a new HC is struggling with a team that was built by our long time, very popular HC Richt? All of these players were recruiting by Richt and his coaching staff. Of course many of them are disappointed, even disgruntled that Richt was fired and a new guy with zero HC experience has taken the reigns. And I agree with the notion that it will take several seasons for Smart to recruit his players and for the team to actually be his team.
