Herbstreit was the main one saying we shouldn't go because we didn't win our Conference Championship. Then, a few years later, he was all over the Bammer nuts to rematch with LSU even though they didn't win the CC.

Your right....seems like right after the SEC Championship game that year Mark Richt called in live to ESPN to make a case for UGA and Herbie was saying all that after the phone conversation. Memory is a little fuzzy, don't know why I thought it was him that said it. He always dogs UGA when he gets a chance.

Until this year. He was all on UGA nuts after Clemson. I think he was the 1st one to mention us in the Natty conversation. Of course, that didn't last long!

They are obviously putting a big emphasis on wins over top 25 opponents.

That said, the structure of this committee and the existence of 5 conferences will almost always assure at least three conferences and usually 4 are represented.

The only advantage for UGA is it is a small group of people making a decision. If a few of them believe conference championships are important, that is all it takes.

Our best shot imo is...We must win out, hope UF gets crazy and runs table, love whoever MIZZ plays, keep Clemson winning (top 25 win), push for AU to beat AL (keep another top 25 win), and hope to play an undefeated Miss St team (top 10 win).

FWIW..The 4 lowest teams in the two SEC divisions (LSU, Arkansas, Vandy, Tenn) are 14-2 versus non conference opponents.

Big 12 and Pac 12 only play 3 out of conference games. Big 10/SEC/ACC play 4.

If the SEC added another conference game back in it would be even less likely we would have teams in the top 10.

Our only chance would be:

1. Florida State
2. Oregon/Arizona State
3. Baylor/TCU
4. ???

- Baylor or TCU to drop a game
- Wisconsin to beat Nebraska and win the B1G over Ohio State
- UGA to win the SECCG over an undefeated or one-loss Moo St

That would leave the decision among Moo St, UGA, and Nebraska. I still don't see a one-loss Moo St getting in over us. Can you imagine the shite storm that would ensue if UGA beat Moo St, yet Moo St jumped UGA and another conference champ? UGA would have won its last 5 games including 2 top 20 teams and the #1 team on a neutral field. Our two losses were on the road, one being the 2nd game of the year and the other being without the best player in the nation. You can bet Mark Richt would be on ESPN 24/7 talking about how UGA got snubbed in 2007 because they didn't win the SEC, and how they couldn't snub them again for winning it.

You have to remember, this is the first year of the playoff, and the committee is supposed to select the best 4 teams at the end of the year. This is suppose to decide a national championship on the field and not by computers and polls. How could you snub UGA by letting Moo St in the playoffs when UGA just beat them on the field. This isn't like TCU/Baylor where they played on October 11. A decision like this would tarnish the playoff system before it even began.

I think 2007 proves anything can happen....we might play for it or we might be on the outside looking in

exactly. the 2 main differences between 2007 and 2014 are going to be...

1) 4 teams instead of 2. this is huge. gives georgia a shot
2) not gonna be quite as much chaos but i think there will be enough to give us a chance.

we obviously need to beat auburn on saturday, and IF we do, we will have a couple of really fun weeks paying attention to other games and having a lot to cheer for in games that we are not involved in.

If UGA wins the rest of their regular season games then one way UGA could ensure Moo St doesn't get the 4th position even though we beat them in the SECCG is for UGA to beat Moo St in a blowout.

I don't think it needs to be a blowout. A win is a win. They would have to consider the SECCG as the playoff into the playoff. I don't care who it is. If you get beat on the field in the last game you played by a team that has a legit case to be in the playoff, then you should not jump them in the standings.

I agree with you in principle but after reading the committee's explanation why they put TCU ahead of Baylor even though Baylor beat TCU, the only way UGA could ensure they wouldn't put a one loss Moo St ahead of UGA even though UGA beat them in the SECCG is to beat Moo St in a blow out.

That's all I'm saying.

This committee is probably going to screw everything up. The thing I haven't heard anybody mention is how the committee based their first rankings off the preseason rankings. This is why teams like Michigan State and UCLA were ranked so high to begin with.

I think it's safe to say that the SEC won't get shut out of the playoff....that 4th spot will definitely be an SEC team.

While I think UGA, if we run the table, will have a very strong case to make the playoff, I just can't see the committee looking past that Florida loss.

UNLESS, and I think this will be the most important non-UGA game for the Dawgs chances, Florida beats FSU. If that happens, FSU is out and I think we'll see two SEC teams in the playoff. Those two teams will be the SEC Champ (UGA) and one of Bama or Moo St. If FSU wins, SEC will only get one team and it will be Bama or Moo St.

FSU is a joke...it makes me sick to look at their schedule and see their ranking. Florida can beat them.
