Unless he has not recovered from his knee surgeries yet, then he will play. If he isn't all the way back though and Gurley can stay healthy, I really wouldn't mind RS'ing Marshall.

Should Gurley go down like the one poster said, it isn't like there is some complicated process to pull the redshirt. You just put them in the game and bam, it's gone.

I just really don't think there's any reason to redshirt him unless he physically can't play. I think he'll probably stay for a 4th year, but no way he stays for a 5th, which is the whole point of a RS.

If he can help at all, you play him.

I mean he is only a couple of months removed from riding a rascal around, so it is hardly out of the realm of possibility that he will not be ready to go this year and just sitting him for his health might be better.

I doubt it, but it is possible. I expect him to play though.

[quote]Redshirt Marshall? quote: With an injury to Gurley, a Marshall redshirting would leave two freshmen to carry the load. Or a sophomore, a redshirt freshman, and then two other freshman quote:

You want to play an SEC schedule with the above, and Mason? Worked so well last season.......with Murray........I guess Moot point. Marshall won't be a RS, healthy. And he won't be a senior.

No, idk why you think I'd want to RS Marshall. Just saying Georgia can manage without if Marshall isn't ready to go for a good portion of the season. Really, and not to just regurjitate what the coaches say, it's up to Marshall and if he's ready and willing to get back into the grind.

Well, yea, if he's healthy idk why anyone would think he'd RS

I think he'll absolutely be a senior

Hard for me to imagine them redshirting Marshall no matter how good the back up RBs are looking. If he was smart he would stay all four years and try to improve his draft stock by being the featured back after Gurley leaves after this season. Michel and Chubb will push Marshall for time along with Turman and Douglas, but Douglas will move to FB his junior year

Let's gather data on how many UGA Freshmen RB sensations have gone on to become seniors, beginning with Herschel. Go!

It isn't as easy as that. Keith Marshall has been a #2 his entire career (and I am not denying the fact that being Gurley's back up is hardly a knock) and now he has a pretty gruesome knee injury now that teams will have to look at for the future. Unless he completely balls out this year if either Gurley goes down or he's just a sensational #2 then, yea, I think he comes back for his senior year to be the main guy.

RBs are not getting drafted like they used to either. And to humor your name a RB who has stayed all 4 years despite being a freshman phenom how about Thomas Brown?

To play devil's advocate (I think he comes back probably), but the injury could just convince him that he needs to turn pro ASAP and start getting paid

I totally get that. He could either be Danny Ware who sees incoming backs as a threat and the time is now to go ahead and make your bank or he can be Thomas Brown, who also came off his knee injury, and finish his career in Athens

ETA: Looking at it now him and Thomas Brown kinda look similar in career paths. Marshall, I believe, has a higher upside on his physical attributes alone but both came off of pretty gruesome knee injuries (wanna say Brown got hurt his junior or soph year returning a KO vs Vandy?) and both have decent backs coming up with Marshall leading Douglas/Michel/Chubb and Brown starting and then spelling Knowshon after Brown got hurt again

The main difference in Marshall's decision vs. Brown's is that Marshall has a lot more pro upside than Brown, like you stated. He'll get drafted higher than Brown would have, so it makes the decision a lot different.

I think he'll come back for two reasons. He is very academically oriented, and I get the vibe that the perception of him as Robin to Gurley's Batman kind of irks him a little bit, as would be expected for someone who is extremely talented in their own right. I think he'll want a year as the bell cow, if only to prove a point and write his own legacy.

Couldn't agree more. Depends on what the NFL guys send back to him in the offseason and if he thinks one more year can do for his stock I guess.

Yeah I figured it probably was. That's why I included the "not sure if serious", but I figured I'd go ahead and comment just in case

Unless he has some kind of breakout year, yes he will. #2 RB's haven't faired well in drafts.
