Are you an amateur at surf fishing in general, or are you an experienced surf fisherman looking for local tip/tricks?

Just remember, don't be a fricking prick and set up 20-30 yards away from the water, making everyone fricking walk a long arse way around you.

I frigured I'd try around the pier pilings or off of a point somewhere outta the way from the swimmers.

Go to North Beach. You'll have to drive from where you are staying but You'll have the beach almost to yourself.

Ok I'll try that spot for sure. What type of rod would you suggest I use... I have a good stripper rod with a Abu garcia 5600 or would I need to purchase a surf rod?

Don't keep your beer and your bait in the same cooler......... Everything else will take care of itself.

My brother used to live on Tybee and he loved everything about it. All I can tell you is you'll have a blast, the best people to ask are locals which are pretty friendly and many will do their best to make sure you've got everything you need and hit just the right places.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but my bro is really the one to ask about Tybee and I can't ask him right now since he's out of town.

I know very little about surf fishing. EDawg could probably tell you all you want to know. He owns his own charter company.

They rent them on the ocean side pier but you have to stay on the pier.

The purpose of a surf rod is to just sling the shite out of it past the breakers. In my experience, 90% of what you catch (or at least want to catch) is in or within the breakers.

If you just want to get spooled and broken off by a 200 pound stingray or a 6 foot shark, then by all means, sling a surf rod 80 yards past the breakers with a big nasty hunk of mullet on a 4 inch hook.

Another pro-tip, the birds will steal your bait if you leave it out and you walk toward the beach to cast.
