... and all the coaches are hired, NSD comes and goes- Which 2015 CFB team do you want the Smart-era Bulldogs to resemble?

My money's on Michigan State or Stanford. Heavy on defense, bordering on elite, with competent, deliberate Pro-style QB play.

What say you?

Loaded with 4* and 5* on the lines with a spattering of elite skill players and 4 4/5* RBs and at least one top 60 draft pick WR on the team at all times.

From your lips to God's... err Yaweh... err the universe's ears. Not sure we have the direct line anymore.

But seriously, this is exactly what I want. QBs will line up to come play if those positions are taken care of. They want to know a) Is the scheme likely to make me look good b) Am I going to be protected or running for my life c) Who the eff will I be throwing it to and d) Do I have to do it on my own or is there a stable of RBs to keep us balanced?

The above scenario answers those questions and if Smart is true to his word at getting the ball in the hands of the best players, then talented TE's like Nauta should be seeing a good number of targets. Next stop, need a legit #1 WR target, someone with size/speed/hands.

I think we're going to adopt more spread tactics in our offense than Stanford or Michigan State do.

+1 for MSU & Stanford. Win or lose on Saturday, I want the team that just played us to still be feeling it on the following Thursday.

I'll be fine if we evolve into Power I/ Pro-style smash mouth after a few years of spread looks, if those hybrid years means KirbyCo have done so to make the most out of the personnel we have on the roster. If the new staff are good mammals, they'll adapt where needed and recruit for the bigger picture of where they want us to be.

Agree with this. Games are generally won or lost in the trenches and if anything that's where too many of Richt's teams were deficient including our current team. You don't have to have an elite RB like Gurley or Chubb if your OL is getting the job done run-blocking. And you don't need elite/shut-down CB's if your front 7 is stuffing the run and putting pressure on their QB.

I've been hoping and praying for a coach who gets this. Maybe CKS gets it. We need to recruit competent, athletic OL with the same intensity that we look for the skill positions.

Skill positions are just as bad as OL right now

Agreed. I was giving the previous administration credit for Murray, Gurley, Chubb & Mitchell more than anything.

Bama.

Stifling, hard hitting, punishing defense. Effective offense. Freaks across both lines of scrimmage where games are won and lost.

Quiet, confident swagger. No more of this gimmick crap. I want to act like we have been here before and that we expect to win every single time we take the field.

It's not just recruiting lineman and Lbs who are top rated. It is closing the door on them. We have gotten some, but that is one area where I feel like GA gets poached on.

Interestingly enough, Bama this year (at start of the season) had 2 5 stars and 3 4 stars on the O line. Only one was from Alabama. They got a guys from La, OH, Ia, and CA. One of those was the top JUCO. When you look down the depth chart, there are more 4 and 5 stars. It looks on paper like they go after the best wherever they are... This is why they grind teams down and beat them in the second half. Talent and depth on the lines.

This is why I am hopeful that Smart can retain more of the best players in our state. I know opportunity at schools with winning traditions is a big factor for recruits but if Kirby can establish a network and repore with our high school coaches, he might be able to convince more of these kids that it's time for UGA to win a NC. Our athletic dept. definitely needs to let him hire as many athletic assistants as it takes to stay abreast of the best athletes in our state.

The state of Alabama has less recruits than Georgia, so somewhat like Tennessee they have to recruit nationally to fill their needs. Plus they get considerable competition in-state from Auburn.

The SECCG was a good example of what you are talking about. Florida's defense looked every bit as good as Bama's in the first half of that game. But in the 2nd half they obviously didn't have the depth to withstand the pounding by Henry & Co.

Depth. Kirby touched on it yesterday in the presser. He knows that CMR and Co. were slacking in QUALITY depth on the lines.
