Tear down the Georgia Square Mall and put it there. That'll bring jobs to Athens, solve the issue of empty stores on ATL Highway, and piss off the Oconee neighbors.

Tell them to comp the politicians $1000 in chips and a hooker each week the legislature is in session. It'll pass.

Everyone should read this. It's exactly why this is a bad idea.

Lake Oconee? Great idea. But it wont be a billion dollars and it wont be the first one built.

The Oconee deal would kill two birds with one stone (Casino & Ponies ). That's what made the location perfect. Providing 1200 full time jobs to a county with a 40% unemployment rate was the closer, so they thought? It's maddening to see our state legislatures tax our arse into oblivion, while completely shunning a cash cow for the state treasury.

As a Georgia resident when Zell Miller pitched the lottery, I can tell you this will never help the education system.
The lottery was proposed to be a separate fund from the state education budget. The esteemed governor and his henchmen swore the education budget would never be reduced if the lottery passed and the education budget would be huge and all would be wonderful.
It took 3 years before the legislature started cutting the education budget because of the windfall from the lottery. How's it doing now?

You bid out the gaming rights to the highest bidder. Don't allow over saturation. Stick to this model and it will work.

Considering the amount of waste in Public education, I'm surprised the state isn't completely bankrupt.

Sticking to models is anathema to the lives of politicians. They would literally choke to death on the idea that money making endeavors can be left alone without their tampering.

This will need it's own thread. I fear that I'm going to have to move out of state by the time I have kids of school age just to get them a mediocre education. Hell, I may have to move them out of the country the way our standardization of everything pedagogical is going.

MGM Pitching Casino To Atlanta

Makes perfect sense.....

If milk toasts and other assorted rabble are coming through Hartsfield on connecting flights to New Orleans or Vegas or the Gulf Coast etc to gamble anyway.....why not save them the extra time and let them gamble in ATL instead!?!?

I picture Bubba Watson cutting a ribbon one day in front of Stone Mountain.........and then the Lee/Jackson/Davis engraving is blasted away in a cloud of smoke....and an engraving of a dollar sign being chased by Donald Trump and Obama riding rainbow zebras appears.

Sidenote: If it even happens, there's no way they'll let them have a sportsbook with such close proximity to an NFL, MLB, and NBA franchises. Which sucks. We're probably talking some pretty high minimums on the tables too....in order to keep certain ATL elements over on the slot machines where they can't scare off business.

Huh?Centennial Park area is light years ahead of the underground area in terms of entertaiment (World of Coke ,Aquarium,Philips,New Falcons Stadium),Police presence, restaurants ,commercial and residential real estate development,etc...the whole West Midtown area is booming these days.

Undergroung has and always will be a dump.

What do hotels and restaurants have to do with building a billion dollar casino and resort? The casino and resort ARE the hotel and restaurant(s). Look at Harrah's in Cherokee. Building this facility will create a "hotel and restaurant area" in itself.

By the way, this will never happen. It's a pipe dream.

You're kidding, right?Do you really think the only people gambling at the casino are staying there?
ESPECIALLY if its gonna be the only game in town.

You want acceess to largest population base possible with disposable income.Conventioneers along with tourist will be your prime target...you know, folks that are in for a convention @ the GWCC,in town for the SECC,Braves game,College HOF,etc

Yep.

I-85, I-75, and I-20 all converge in downtown ATL.

Hartsfield Airport has a Marta train that runs straight to downtown. If there's a billion dollar casino at the end, you can bet it will be the nicest cleanest safest train in America.

Some frick from Omaha who is at the downtown Hilton for a 3 day drapery convention at the congress center isn't going to rent a car so he can drive through ATL traffic up to Gwinnet or Hall county so he can play a little blackjack, get a few drinks, then get DUIds by GSP on 85 on the way back to his hotel downtown. And he can't stay at the casino because his expense report won't be approved by the travel department at his drapery corporation.
