Not sure but he's obviously not unfamiliar with the role.
Maybe it was some type of inside joke deal tied in with
his TV Elvis role.

One of the best movies ever... LINK...
On the Forrest Gump trivia, this is random but for some reason, the bench that Forest and the old lady sat on in Savannah where he tells her basically the whole movie...its now sitting beside a tee box on a par 4 on Fripp Island, SC for some reason.

Who is the only modern musical artist to be given a lifetime contract?
(hint the last one was between the civil war and world war I)

He is a fan and is known at Hollywood parties for his Elvis impersonations. I thick it is what landed him the role "3,000 Miles to Graceland" which had a pretty impressive cast.
Kurt Russell
Kevin Costner
Courteney Cox Arquette
Christian Slater
Kevin Pollak
David Arquette
Jon Lovitz
Howie Long
Thomas Haden Church
Bokeem Woodbine
Ice-T
Paula Anka (for the older folks on here) makes a cameo as the pit boss. As for Kirk Russell he indue was a young Disney star and is where he and Goldie Hawn first met.
I worked with him on a movie years ago and he is pretty cool but really short. Must be something about me as I generally get hugged and have been hugged by both Snake Pliskin and "The Dude" (tho not in those specific roles).

It would be awesome if the eye rolled around and the beak opened and closed.

He was also a pretty good shortstop who played minor league ball in the Cardinals organization.Hurt his shoulder and had to quit.He always said it was his 1st love.

Do you not remember his Elvis TV movie back in the late 70's?He was excellent and I won an Emmy I believe.
Also,my trivia question guess would be Lionel Richie.I know he signed some type huge deal back in the early eighties.

I think this is Kurt's finest moment on screen.
I still use the canoe quote from time to time. Val Kilmer rocks this scene as well. Definitely a top 5 western maybe the best of all time....shall we debate it?
