There is an underlying aspect of this which I believe is the following:
- If Grantham hadn't quit, he would still be here and Pruitt would probably still be in Tallahassee.
- Thank goodness the Pruitt was mightily attracted to Richt (and he is a great man IMO) and the program he has built (kudos Richt).
- Pruitt is a home run, but there is an element of "falling into it" rather than decisive action.

There are many factors in choosing and retaining a HC. Winning championships is obviously one of those factors but all things considered, Mark Richt is a near ideal football coach for UGA.
There has been a lot of good input in this thread. I echo much of it. Mark's obvious technical weakness is defense and his missing link has been an excellent DC. It would seem he has finally filled that void with Pruitt so I am hopeful as are all die hard dawg fans. Gooooooo Dawgs!!

I'll never be convinced that there wasn't more to the situation than just Louisville making an offer and Grantham leaving. There was something working there behind the scenes that allowed Grantham to save face and keep Richt from having to fire him. Never going to believe that Grantham just up and left on his own.

I totally agree. Something to the effect that CTG was informed that MR put his (Grantham's) resume out and was happy to give references. This is all without CTG necessarily putting his name out there...

He won me over after his first interview when he accepted the job. It's his till he is ready to move on as far as I'm concerned.
And he is currently pulling out all the stops to lock down borders and travel to states that are generally off limits to us and pulling top guys, at least interest ATM. And yes I realize that Pruitt brought change with him that is causing most of this to happen, but Richt turned down Kirby to get Pruitt and that was his doing.
Pruitt will be a great HC one day, but I think he might give UGA 4 at least, he respects Richt as much as any coach in the country, if not more than all. This is his dream job working for him and learning things only Richt can teach him. He is young and I think he wants to pick up everything he can from Richt, because I think he wants to be the best of MR and NS.
So in short I've been sold on Richt since day one, if BVG would have stuck around 4 more years we would have a confetti drop on our resume.
So Richt!

$1mm guaranteed for 5 years, no SEC and the rocky situation at UGA. Yeah, he left as if his arse was on fire. I would have too, so would you.

I have no problem believing that Granham and Petrino hate each other's guts already. There was too much smoke for there not to be any fire there.
